I know a bunch of y'all here have SAR experience and training and some are volunteer SAR members... I wonder if there's merit to having some people here actually try and locate "distress" beacons in different conditions?
One idea..
Plastic ammo cans with functional GPS units (for return navigation) inside, set up by the experienced people; and different kinds of beacons on their outsides, other than the radio GPS/SPOT type of beacons.. something like say, the SDU5E/MS2000/Marine strobe, and then another somewhere else with just signal panel, and yet another with say a rotating signal mirror (to "simulate" person waving or angling one ) and a final one with glow sticks? Idea is to see which ones would be found first by new people.
Maybe this could work?
