Good idea but bad execution. The bill is unconstitutional because it makes it a crime for federal agents to enforce federal laws (Supremacy Clause) and infringes on the reporter's first amendment rights. It would just result in expensive legal fees when the state was sued for the law. They could have easily passed laws that would have been constitutional muster with a law preventing local authorities from assisting with federal gun law investigations and making it a crime for government officials to release information on CHL.

I know that the idea sounds great but we always complain about the other side passing unconstitutional laws and we should hold our side to the same standards.

It's like saying, "the SCOTUS upheld the Arizona immigration bill against the DOJ challenge because coming into the country illegal is already illegal", in other words how can a State law banning unconstituional Federal actions be unconstitutional?
