The basic definition of a tax loophole is a provision in the tax code that allows taxpayers to reduce their tax liability. Lots of benign deductions and credits do just that.

There was a Supreme Court ruling, I think around the late 60's, that made it harder to hold crazy people against their will. Good for personal liberty, arguably bad for genuinely crazy people who really do need help.

Unfortunately, we have (had) a "crazy" family member in USA and one in China. The one in USA spent the last few years of her life in a very bad state of dementia, and couldn't be helped because she wouldn't agree to it. Terrible, miserable mess, we tried to help but she wouldn't take it.
The one in China is calmly sedated (pretty similar mental affliction) and lives a peaceful life with her family. They can take her in against her will if she ever relapses or gets off her meds.

As much as I love the USA and loathe China, I gotta say we get some things wrong.

If you let enough crazies and criminals out they will make firearms look even worse when they commit crimes, makes ya wonder if that's the actual goal?

So? I'm upset about face diapers too and the inflamed respiratory issues I have due to them but I don't go about shooting stuff up that shouldn't have holes in it.

The issue is the individual and maybe, as you said, in an extent the legal inability to help folks that are not able to be rational. That would mean most of congress would be clinically insane but we already knew that!

Until I hear more info I will refrain from judgement of who is to blame and why. The lockdowns and masks and social pressures and the socialism we got right now is causing huge numbers of mental issues and pushing a huge number of those with existing issues to do things like suicide. I heard from a therapist friend that they are seeing record numbers of suicide threats and attempts in their patients.

Its not a good deal. We should be worried.

I hear you. Freedom is a messy business. The minute you make it easier to do one thing, you've probably made it harder to do another. It's even worse when few of the "lawmakers" have our best interests at heart or any clue how to help. Still beats the bubblegum out of communism.
