I'm a huge WWII enthusiast, especially the air war but I can't help but think that the trailers look cheesy. Why? The CGI looks kinda lame.

Like the real stuff as well, but the CGI scenes in Red Tails is amazing to me. Watching the ME 262 fight is something I could do over and over again. Now I'm going to have to look it up again!

One of the difficulties for CGI engineers is modeling how planes behave in flight with manuevering and how planes behave when they crash.

You woukd think they could have done a better job, particularly with the latter.

I distrust the new Hollywood with any such remake. I'm old enough, other than Quaid and Harrelson, I don't know the actors. Most new Hollywood actors are such snowflake socialists, that I have zero respect. They have no right to play the part of heroes on the big screen.

what I am looking forward to is This

follow up to Band of Brothers and The Pacific.. been in development for a long time though

Undecided. Oh, I will watch it, because I've viewed every film I can get my hands on, good, bad, or otherwise, on the most interesting period of history to me (the Big One). This one looks, well, something I'll try if for no other than morbid curiosity. (I tried twice to get through Pearl Harbor and it was such a piece of crap, I couldn't finish it. And that is really saying something. Parenthetically, I had a relative, on my maternal grandmother's side, who I met many times as youth in the 80s, who fought at Pearl Harbor. He's long gone, of course, but an interesting, and tough fellow.)

I made the mistake of watching a review by a guy who knows his stuff and he pretty much tore it up.
I happened on the review by accident, but it really was excellent.
So I'll give it the go by.

I grew up the 1976 version of Midway; Charlton Heston, Henry Fonda, Robert Mitchum, et al. I'm expecting the 2019 version To be a very hard sell for me. Woody Harrelson? Really?
Exactly, Woody Harrelson in a movie about the actual turning point of World War 2. I will not be paying my money for the current Hollywood crowds remake.

Let's see, B-25s taking off from carriers, ala the Doolittle Raid, during that battle? Nope, false.

Japanese aircraft that weren't even service at the time of Midway? Nope, false.

Local Commanders deciding to take their forces to Midway when Washington doesn't believe it will be there? Nope, false.

Won't wast a cent on this.

This ^^^. Those movies may have not been true to form either, but I'll always prefer them over new stuff. It's just the kind of old(er) guy I am. :)

I LOVE Woody Harrelson though. King Pin, White Men Can't Jump, etc. Might be hard to watch him in a dead serious role.

I'll probably watch it for the following reasons;
(Even though Unlike "The Dirty Dozen". It'll be missing some really great character actors.)

- Like "The Dirty Dozen"it'll be an entertaining film set in WWII, just check your brain at the door.
additionally....
- Probably nobody (on the screen) will be wearing tights, capes and spiffy boots.
- Hollywood managed to fight-off their urge to cast Halle Berry as Admiral Halsey.
- No Disney Princesses, or dancing teacups.
- No Minions (would that be racist?)
- Not expecting the airmen, crews and command to frequently burst into song/dance.

But, most importantly....
- I have a couple of free passes to use by the end of the month.
