I always wonder, based on how well Savage's ugly rifle barrels perform, what happens if you just use a cheap barrel but put a really good crown on it.

My 14.5" Rainier Arms Ultramatch barrel is the most accurate AR barrel i have in the safe. No kidding. Got one for my AR10 (18") and while the rifle isn't completely sorted yet (scope issues) its showing tremendous promise. Watch for sales...you can save some money.

I was surprised at how accurate the lowest price PSA 20" kit was.

Loves Sierra 65 gr Game Kings and consistently puts them in groups that touch each other.

And then you might have to get on a wait list for a "premium" AR barrel.
If I wanted a nice AR barrel without waiting, I'd probably go with something from White Oak Armament.
They build AR's for competition and have reasonable prices.
Reportedly Wilson Arms or Shilen blanks, culled, chambered and crowned by WOA.

Now if you really have to have that Bartlein or Krieger without waiting, it's Compass Lake Engineering.
Gotta pay to play over there.
