Metalized bags instead of mylar bags

Ok I have been a big proponentof mylar bags, but several months ago I read something about mylar bags breaking down since after all they are a form of plastic. And that the best bags were metalized bags.

Problem being I cannot remember where I read this and cannot find the websites. Can anyone help, with data links and true knowledge?

Well if you ask an environmentalist,plastic will last 1000 years in a dump,so I'm not too worried about my food in plastic.
Main thing is keeping the UV rays off of all your supplies.

I think what you might be looking for is a bag that has a layer of foil sandwiched between layers of plastic as opposed to a thin bag of plastic that has a metal "spray" or such on it.

Though plastic lasts a long time it is actually oxygen permeable over a very long time. Only glass and metal are true oxygen barriers.

The multilayer storage bags I'm familiar with are all aluminized Mylar - there's no other way to make them impermeable to oxygen.

Mylar bags will work just fine for food storage. I think they are trying to market those metal bags for EMP protection on small electronics. A metal garbage can with tight lid would work just as good. Probably on of those doomsday hype products.
