memaloose gravel pit shut down?

I just read on KPTV that there are fires in Estacada started by "target shooters". This is unfortunate because i wanted to get some shooting out of my system before fall sets in. Obviously the fire and people that live there are more important, but like i mentioned, i would still like to go out shooting.
Do you guys have any idea on whether or not it's safe to shoot out there? And if not, where are some other good spots with a backdrop?

Highway 224 is closed at the Forest boundary, so Memaloose is not accessible. See the outdoor shooting areas section on this forum.
