In news relating to the magazine restriction component of M114.
The Illinois ban was struck down. Depending on where the Oregon COA case goes, this might at least be good news for down the road. Also hopefully SCOTUS will take up one of these "Assault Weapon and Magazine Ban" cases soon and issue that favorable ruling.

Mcglynn wrote an awesome ruling but it has not reached higher Illinois courts yet where easterbrook is. Easterbrook is most powerful judge there and is rabid anti gun.

That's very true, however remember, Clarence Thomas wrote a small opinion in the denial of the petition due to being interlocutory. Essentially warning the seventh circuit to get it right. I had previously thought that while the seventh ruling correctly would obviously be good for the immediate, having them get it wrong would be more beneficial for the nation in the long term. However, now we have Snope in SCOTUS, which I believe also has a magazine restriction.

Easterbrook might have no choice than to rule in favor of the 2A at this point because if/when Snope is ruled in favor of the 2A it would nullify his upholding of the ban and make him look really silly. Maybe he doesn't care, because he's just that anti-2A. Time will tell.

Have you seen how the 9th Circus have acted since the mag ban case got remanded from SCOTUS? Kicked down to Benitez who again ruled correctly, and currently in District appeal limbo again on calendar for week of Dec 9th 2024 in 9th District, Duncan V Bonta (ruled unconstitutional 2020, then en banc, ruled constitutional 2021, then went to SCOTUS 2022, GVR (grant, vacate, remand) to 9th, then 9th kicked back down to Benitez, then it went back to 9th, )and now.....

Yyup. Ditto for NY defying SCOTUS after Bruen. So yeah, the Snope case should settle the mag ban cases but no telling if States or even Districts will obey

It would be a "Net Zero Gain" if they play that, replacing Sotomayer with a younger version doesn't gain them anything, even long term unless they can swing the court to blue, and that will NEVER happen! It's a wild pie in the sky play, hopefully they don't push it, and let the stupid arrogant woman die in peace! If that happens during Trump's term ( and why they would take that risk) he gets to pick a conservative justice to replace her, that is a pretty big motivation, but it's also a double edged sword, the new trifecta majority could then impeach the other two radical justices, and block Bidens pick, and it's back to Net Zero mostly! The only gain is if they can push through Congress and get a confirmation, not likely!

It just shows how focused the left is on changing SCOTUS's makeup. They will do almost anything to achieve it. Note the recent judge Thomas attempted scandals.

That's why I keep saying that imo the appointment of SCOTUS's judges is the single biggest factor in protecting 2A rights. 2nd is getting the AWB and similar through scotus asap. Nothing else compares in gravity and long term impact imo. If there is a left majority SCOTUS we will lose our gun rights (one piece at a time I mean). It's that simple imo.

There's a simple way to look at the SCOTUS judge issue, if they were smart, they would just wait as there is a good chance that she will live another 4-12 years still. If they really would want to replace her, they should just wait till their pick would matter and be useful. Replacing her now would be stupid for them to do. You have to look at the long game as well, a younger Judge would get them a seat for a longer time which is what they want as we all know. You have to look at the flip side of it as well, maybe they want a Repub pick so that they can make the claim that the Repubs are trying to stack the courts and use that as an excuse to push the "expand the courts" issue again and than try to get several new judges when they control the WH again.
