Since when did I say I consumed or trusted mainstream media? You seem to hold some sort of grudge against those who hold any semblance of a negative feeling toward China.

Do you really think that Americans are unjustified in viewing China as a potentially dangerous geopolitical threat?

I assumed since you were linking to mainstream media hit jobs. Silly me!

You can read dengs works and realize that China long ago gave up any imperial ambitions or even supporting socialist struggles in other countries because they accurately realized that doing so helped to make the Soviet Union collapse. So yeah I do think it's stupid that america thinking a country primarily concerned with shoring up their territory against climate change is an existential threat is mega stupid.

To me, that's a wordy way of saying, "we have different viewpoints" and you're inclined to believe what you do, and I'm inclined to believe what I do. I just chuckle at some of the notions asserted when we are talking about a country that quite literally tracks communication between its populace, controls their social media access, has instituted a social credit score, and disappear people who speak negatively about the party, but please, continue to illuminate me to how misguided I am.

What I don't understand is why people go out of their way to be different, unique, on the fringes etc, but then get surprised when people treat them different. I thought that was part of the appeal for them?

Im a clean cut white guy with no tattoos. I'm probably more outside the norms of society than most these days.

Hummmm... the building of military bases on islands even though 1000s of miles from China (and even when they are closer to other countries and/or where previous claims have been made) doesn't count?

And not to mention threatening international navigation.

Aloha, Mark

PS.....and.....Taiwan?

Because we should be free to express ourselves in any way we see fit. I happen to enjoy dying my hair, wearing kilts, and having tattoos. You don't. We should both be free to do as we will.

What actual harm does someone wearing a kilt, or having tattoos, or having facial piercings cause you? Unless it's a windy day, that is.

Your answer is to a question that was not asked. Slimmer13 was not questioning or criticizing people's' freedoms - he was questioning WHY they they do certain things.

And you ARE free to dress and look the way you want however you cannot necessarily 'express' yourself anyway you want. Expression is using words and conduct to make a point, convey a meaning etc. and depending on the circumstances those words and conduct may NOT be acceptable - or legal.

What actual harm does someone wearing a kilt, or having tattoos, or having facial piercings cause you?
Well, it typically doesn't cause someone ELSE any harm but the person with the facial piercings might experience it. Ever seen facial piercings ripped out of someone's face?

You are free to do as you see fit as long as it does not harm anybody else. You ARE.

I don't see any HARM in you dressing diff, etc.

But the question was why do people that have diff appearance expect others to not have any reaction. Note that I have horrid Keloid burn scars that normally can't be seen until I go to the beach, go swimming, have sex, etc. Do I expect people not to have a reaction? NOPE. One gal seeing me in bed for the first time with the light on actually barfed. It's a painful memory!!! But it's not something I have a choice about other than to keep my shirt on... so I personally would never increase the chances of people cringing etc when they see me. And my daze of wearing a leather headband and a fu manchu ended 50yrs ago.

I personally probably won't say anything directly to you. (I might mutter to the wife on the way out to the car. I might even roll my eyes where you can't see it... are those microagressions?) But if I saw you in the store, I would not engage you in a convo. I certainly would not have hired you in my business. Weirdness is not a protected class. The reason I would not hire a "weirdo" is not because they couldn't do the job, but because they would attract adverse opinions from customers. That may be wrong in some opinions, but it is what it is....

That's some funny bubblegum. Probably written by a propaganda officer in the CCP.

Here. then let me answer the question directly.

Why do people be individuals? Because we can. Because Freedom. Because America,

What answer do you give when Old Timer McFudd face asks why you need 30 rounds in an AR? Because freedom, that's why.

Now I'll give you legality, sure, some expression is illegal and for mostly good reasons. However, what would it hurt to expand on what's "acceptable"? Some number of years ago, men couldn't leave the house without suit and tie. Now people have back tattoos.

Sure, let's even say it's fine to judge people. I do it as well. But I move past it. Take your scars for example. Sure, I would be taken aback by them if seeing them for the first time. But then I would still be as delightful as I ever am.

Is my cash any less green because it comes from a leopard print wallet? Is yours more valuable because yours is leather with a chain?

Something something, content of their character right? That's the phrase that gets thrown around a lot, and was even mentioned earlier in this thread.

Which looping back to the original point of the thread.... There are a lot of new gun owners, some of them feel afraid and unwelcome. And as a wierdo, I can tell you that it sucks when people get caught up in something as simple as appearance. That purple mohawk woman might have been your best friend.

Yes, I may look at your kakhis and not understand why you would choose bifurcated garments. But ultimately you, do you. Pants or chaps, I'd still let you shoot with me and offer my help if needed.

And as a wierdo, I can tell you that it sucks when people get caught up in something as simple as appearance.
Are you admitting you are a 'weirdo' ? AND by saying 'it sucks when people get caught up in something as simple as appearance suggests it must be a self-conscious concern for you, or you wouldn't mention it sucks.

Appearance is not necessarily something simple that can be just 'overlooked' and not get 'caught up' in.

Take Jake Angeli, the guy in the fur hat, horns, tats at the Capitol.

I wouldn't call his appearance 'something simple'.

For those of you with enough WHITE privilege :D to own an AM radio, you can tune in NOW to 1410 AM Radio in Portland and listen to Gun Talk Radio. The radio signal does not care what you believe, what you look like, whether you wear a dog-collar or not, how much money you have, what color you are, what is between your legs, whether you are happy with what's between your legs or not, or whether you are a patriotic America-first Trumpster  or a violent leftist nutbag America-hating snowflake! :D It does not discriminate. Join the conversation and stop whining! :)

Here's the schedule:

Also I intend to add this line when I get my signature box. How would you like to be credited?

Just call me "The Great And Magnificent BBBASS, knower of all things, baffler of the brilliant, handsomest man on earth, believer in the ONE truth, master of the bait, the most humble of men, his awesomeness cannot be recorded on any known scale, rescuer of fools, tooter of the Great Horn of Gylindora, Fane of the Fhrey, Miralyith of untold power, and a Lover of unparalleled prowess and distinction.

I am a wierdo and it's taken me a long time to feel comfortable in who I am. I've always been picked on because I'm short, or fat, or too poor for cool shoes or different in some way or another. So yeah, it sucks. Even today, you can't go out in public in a kilt without a certain degree of self-awareness.

Now apply that to being a first time gun owner. You find a forum of people and you ask for help. Then you get bubblegummed on (did I use that right? It's supposed to be the S Word).and told people wouldn't shoot with you because of how you look and that people won't help you because you are different. Have any of you ever been picked on or excluded for your appearance? Imagine, if you where utilizing a god given right for the first time, after decades of being told that it was bad to do so. Then all you are met with is people telling you that you need to look a certain way before you'll be allowed to do so.

All I am asking is for you to take consideration of other's feelings. I think having new people come in is a great thing.

Especially now. Look at all the anti gun reteric out there. Look at all the anti gunner stereotypes out there. Heck, look at the NRA being super corrupt and it being exposed. Every direction nongunners look, the are seeing this message. Now comes someone pushing that all out of the way, only to get smacked in the face by "You can't sit at our table."

Some of you are wonderful, and extend your hand and say "hey, let me help you" or "let me answer any questions you have" and that's great. but some of you are very much in the "stay off my lawn!!!" types. I think we need more of the former.

Sounds like a personal confidence problem more than anything. If you are comfortable and confident in your own skin, it won't matter what other people think, say, etc.

Well, yes, you are correct. But, while I now have no problem with my body and my confidence, a lot of people don't. And, as has been mentioned before, not everyone is Me. If they where I wouldn't be the wierdo.
