A lot of 8mm ammo is corrosive. So.....clean it correctly (especially unk surplus ammo). I clean rifles shot with corrosive ammo with hot/soapy water. Followed by regular bore cleaner, patches and oiled patches. And I clean it ASAP (when I get home, don't put it off).
As I heard it... The Yugoslav Military standardized their 8mm Mausers (M24/47, M48 and M48A etc...) with an action size and bolt (call it an Intermediate action) that was about a 1/8" shorter than the standard German K98k action and bolt.
Yes, there were plenty of German captured rifles too. Though post war ....they standardized their inventory.
