Even in a country where firearms ownership is very low, highly regulated and not a part of the culture it still happens. This news is always sad but it proves once again all the laws on the books will not stop it because it is the person not the object that does harm.

Massive police manhunt on for Japan gunman who killed 1, wounded 3 at office in rare incident of gun violence

"TOKYO (AFP) - A gunman who shot dead a construction worker and wounded three others at their office in Japan was on the run on Monday (Aug 29), in a country where firearms violence is extremely rare.

The Yomiuri Shimbun daily reported the suspect was the son of the construction firm owner, and was still armed when he fled in the western city of Wakayama.

The attack took place inside a company office during a meeting, the paper reported. All four victims were taken to hospital, where 45-year-old Mr Junsuke Ishiyama died from a bullet wound to the stomach."

According to present documentation, the level of LEGAL gun ownership in Japan is 0.6 of 1 per cent, mostly shotguns and with VERY few rifles of any kind.

Possession of handguns by civilians is not allowed except for researchers using them for testing or research.

It stands to reason therefore that the handgun used to kill and injure in this case was illegal.
