Robberies were attempted at not one, but two Portland bars, and in each case, a person was pistol whipped by the would be robber.

Video footage of one of the robberies can be viewed in the news report at the link below, which talks about both attempted robberies. In the video, you can see the robber grap a man who tried to flee out the front door, and then proceeded to beat him with his pistol.

Was the man wrong to try to run? Should he have instead complied with the robber, and laid down on the floor as he demanded? Take a look:

I noticed he failed to disable that guy by striking him with the gun. This is a great argument for why you don't open carry. You give up your tactical advantage of blending with the sheep.

Who can say if he was wrong to run? In this case it was evident that the robber didn't intend to shoot anyone, if he did, he would have shot that guy in the back. In this case it worked out for him.

In another robbery the act of running can trigger the persons instinct to shoot the fleeing prey. Much like a coin toss, that guy got lucky this time.

Strange I never hear of these things happening in North Idaho where many are armed to the teeth...
