I have a old octagon barrel takedown lever action Marlin .22 s l lr.
When I got it, it worked. One time using it and the firing pin inside broke in half. I can't seem to find the breeching assembly and a new firing pin.
I've seen online that these go for $800-$1000.
Since its not working now, I'm thinking about $500.
It's old I know that because there's only 5 serial numbers.

There are several places on the Net where old parts are available. Give them a look see. With out pictures I'd only be guessing with said, I have to think that you price is a bit high.

I'll probably get the firing pin. I like lever actions, but I like my 30/30 more than the .22. I just have things I need money for and I know the value of this rifle and itdi help cover it.

What is the SN Range?:):)

Model 39 Date of Manufacture ??

"The star was used as a sales gimmick from 1924-1930. Hope this helped you."

"The Model 39 was introduced in 1922, and did not carry a prefix. The S prefix likely was first used in the 1925-26 era, based on serial number ranges for the non and S prefixed rifles. The HS prefix was used beginning in 1932, until the introduction of the model 39A in 1939. Use only standard or target velocity ammunition in your model 39! You will crack the bolt with high speed ammunition (the change in 1932 of the bolt allowed high speed ammunition to be used, hence the "HS" serial code designation). The non prefix known range of serial codes (reported by Brophy) is 1002 - 12959, so I would place your rifle in the 1924-25 era."
