A 27-year-old Carson man was arrested in Stevenson last month after a reported purchase of an apparently stolen firearm triggered an investigation.
On May 26, Steven Tyler Hohman was taken into custody without incident on multiple counts of felon in possession of a firearm, trafficking stolen property and possession of stolen property, according to the Skamania County Sheriff's Office.
The sheriff's office has recovered seven of 35 firearms they allege were at one point in Hohman's possession. Their investigation was launched when a resident told them he believed he had been sold a stolen firearm.
Anyone who has recently purchased a firearm from a private party is asked to visit the Skamania County Sheriff's Civil Office during business hours to have it checked out.
Hohman allegedly sold at least one firearm to the American Legion Hall in Carson and several to pawn shops in Idaho. He was believed to be selling the guns under the alias "Beau Kitchens" and traveling with a woman and infant child. Rifles, handguns and shotguns were believed to be among the trafficked weapons.
"Our office worked extremely hard on this case, with great results. Our main concern, now that Hohman is in custody, is there are still... firearms unaccounted for," Detective Tim Garrity was quoted in the release.
