Considering a laser for my Kimber M1911 Gold Match. Not partial to the Crimson Trace, which operates from the grip. Another outfit (brand name escapes me now) offers one that projects the laser from the guide rod (replaces the factory guide rod, under the barrel).
I prefer this projection since windage is not a factor in adjustment, and believe it or not, I intend to hunt big game with the pistol. Currently, I have it outfitted with a Leupold/Gilmore red dot, but this adds to the pistol's mass and protuberance (for those of you from Rio Linda, this is something that sticks out).
Anyone have experience with a guide-rod laser? Does the replacement affect the accuracy tolerances of the well-designed (critically machined) Kimber arrangement? I suspect it might.
