IMO night sights are only good for identifying your weapon on your nightstand when you hear a noise coming out of a deep sleep lookin for it.

better to have a streamlight on the rail or somethin like it

My theory on this, as most people agree the .40 cal versions didn't suffer the accuracy issues like the 9mm versions, was the M&P was designed from the ground-up to be a .40 and was adapted to be a 9mm, unlike many guns that are 9mms that are adapted to be .40s.
IMO 40s&w is a good round. its proven to "do the job"
i have a 23 that ive shot probably 10k rounds thru.

i have a coworker with a "mid size" m&p 45.

never seen one before till i saw the one he owns

There was a 45c that is the exact same size as the current 9/40 2.0 Compact 4 inch. It was 8+1. No 2.0 version of this size yet. I'd buy one in a heartbeat.

There is the full size (pictured) and a version that is the full size frame with shorter barrel/slide that makes it essentially the same size as the full size 9/40. These are 10+1 and have 2.0 versions.

he likes it but wants a threaded barrel which is like trying to find unicorn blood

They have the factory suppressor ready version now. I've had this one for 6-8 months now. Would like to get that Apex trigger on it but haven't had the extra funds yet.

Gratuitous M&P gun porn! :)

That's a 1.0 4" 45 on top and then a 1.0 4.25" 9mm Core. Somebody was asking about capacity on the 45's which are generally 10+1 as stated but they do make a 14 rounder for it. It's a big mag for sure but chock full of yummy 45 acp goodness. :D

So I take it you like the Apex? I see some a couple different versions out there. Any advice on getting just the show or is it worth it to get the whole trigger kit?

Yes, I'm a fan of Apex. And I'm a huge fan of flat triggers in general so I went with that one and the forward set sear. The full kit is pricey but it's nice. It's also a huge plus having the same trigger in both guns, since I own two of them.

I tend to think anything you get from Apex is only going to make things better. But my thought process was that these were guns I intend to keep for the rest of my life as I rarely sell guns. And when you consider that you're going to have them forever, it becomes a little easier to justify the extra $$ for the full kits. At least these are the lies I tell myself. ;)

I wasn't a fan of Glock when I was a SIG guy. Wasn't a fan of the M&P when I was a Glock guy. I came to accept the M&P and when the M&P 2.0 came out, I became an M&P guy. Sorta. If I could carry a Glock or SIG again, I would. But the M&P is plenty capable and reliable.
Another M&P fan. I love the way it fits my hand and soft recoil. As accurate as any of my 1911's.
I use a M&P 9 mm 2.0 for IDPA also. I have Apex sears installed in all my
M&P's. Greatly improves trigger pull and reset. IDPA does not allow changing the trigger.
Some of my M&P's---- 22, 9 mm 2.0, 9 mm Shield, 45 2.0, and a 45C 1.0

I agree, get a better trigger first...like a full Apex kit.

Next...Better sights, not night sights. Once you turn on a good lumen light, the night sights wash out, and you have normal sights.
With a fiber optic front sight, you'll have a sight that works with ambient light, and even better when used with a good hand held light.

Last, go with a barrel...unless as stated above, you have one of the early miserable models.
Ok so identifies the 1.0 version as one of the old miserable models. Or is it all of the 1st gen models. Thank you.

I've got a first generation 9mm, and it's a tack driver...so they were obviously hit and miss .

Installed a full Apex trigger kit, and a 10-8 sight on the rear.
I left the original front sight and painted it a bright chartreuse...a color so awful it'll make your eyes bleed, but easy to find under tough conditions. No dots.

I find a hand held light more versatile than a pistol weapon mounted light.

These threads are often a crack up, like the guy who posted about gold poop.

I have several M&Ps including 1.0's 40, 45 full and 45 compact sizes - they all shoot accurately; the 40 has a super smooth trigger, so I've done nothing to it (owned since they came out yrs ago), apart from picking up a Pro C.O.R.E kit last week - that I have yet to take to the range. Both 45s shoot well, especially the full size but have (or had) the infamous gritty trigger - which an APEX sear fixed right up. The 40 and 45 full size are early models.

Have more than a few choices for fun and sport, but if my life depended on it - I'll likely be grabbing one of these M&P's.

My suggestion to the OP (as I've done) - keep the factory barrel setup for defensive carry but pick up a match grade barrel in an alternate caliber - easy switch from 40 to 9mm, even easier to 357 SIG since it uses the same 40 mags. 9 to 40/357 works too.

It's not expensive, much cheaper than buying another gun and it helps you improve as a shooter, to better understand, correct and control your grip, stance and trigger pull with different ammo in the same platform - IMO.
