New load for 44 special from Magtech.
240gr 722 FPS Should be interesting for low recoil rounds. New shooters with 44 mag or older single action revolvers.
Just thought it might be useful.
FMJ I think (short term memory)

This is what I do with .41 Mag. No need for a .41 Special, which some guys pay money for special cases. You can load a .44 Mag. down with a fluffy powder and get 44 Spec. velocities that shoot well.

There's nothing all that special about a .44 special round that throws a 240gr bullet at 722 fps. Thats 278 ft lbs. Typical of many factory .44sp loads, down there in the power range of a .38sp, not even .38sp +P. Just with a fatter bullet. So sure it will be very low recoil. Just skipping the gun and throwing the slug by hand would be even lower recoil.

Where .44sp really shines is in hotter .44sp loads that are hot compared to most over-the-counter factory .44sp loads, but still very mild compared with most .44mag loads. For example, check out the Grizzly 260gr wide-flat-nose hardcast, that runs at 950 fps. That's 521 ft lbs. Same power range as full .357 mag loads but with a bigger fatter bullet. Cost about a dollar a round from either Grizzly (which is an Oregon company) or Midway. One review at Midway, the guy fired it at a series of 2 x 4s, and found it penetrates four and starts on fifth. So more than 8 inches of wood. So it would be fine for defense against black bears or hunting deer, hogs, or bears.

As for affordable .44sp practice ammo, check out Proficient Marksman, aka, our own @oremike. He sells various .44sp loads for slightly under .50 each at gun shows and via mail order.
