And yet the bait I originally dangled back somewhere on page 1 escped your notice? Its prime out of context fodder.
I'll hafta go back and look. I skipped over most of it. Too intricate for my feeble intellect to grasp...

what a difference 4 inches make!

Welp, that didn't take long to find...

I have a 34" Savior Rifle case and I had to finally put a my Law Tactical folding adapter on my 16" AR to use it. They also have a 30" rifle case as well. I went OD Green for it. It is fine for going to the gun range and I suppose a SHFT event as well. Realistically I would break my AR down so it fits in a smaller back pack but if SHTF event I would not want to put it together to use it.

I am nowhere near skinny, alt looking nor pretentious enough to act like I'm a musician :p
I'm pretentious enough to act like I'm a musician. And if a 75 year old old broad so dares, so can anyone, really. I even take a guitar to talks I give on plant breeding and sing songs I've made up about it. However, if I packed a gun in my guitar case where would I put the guitar? Even in these trying times, I think I'm lots more likely to feel a need to sing a song than to shoot somebody. Or at least than to shoot more people than Buddy, my trusty 686 snubby EDC, could deal with. (And if I carried all the extra speed loaders or mags on my belt people seem to recommend these days there would be no room for the harmonica.)

So far, it looks like KISS is gonna win for the range/camp gun backpack.. still unsure if I want bucket style top loader, or to suck it up and use a long zipper... definitely will have MOLLE internal panels, maybe a field of velcro for rip off organizer bags?

I have a modest Tamrac camera backpack that's a nice handy size for a pack for just walking around town. Or around the field. Or as a daypack when hunting or hiking. I can put Thumper, my scoped 9.5" Ruger Super Redhawk .44 mag in the main compartment on the left side as I wear pack. The zipper opens from the left. So I can deploy the gun from zipped up pack on my back to gun in my hands in about two to three seconds. My regular EDC on my person, I can deploy in a small fraction of a second. Thumper is my substitute for hunting rifle and/or AR and/or SHTF firearm. To each her own.

Thumper is unnoticeable, cozy, and secure because of the heavy padding and wide straps in a bag designed for heavy cameras. Even with Thumper there is room in the main compartment for a clipboard with plant breeding notes, several loaded speed loaders, a sweater, rain gear, a hat, extra wool socks, balaclava, a 6" folding knife for harvesting veggies, many plastic bags, etc. A big back partial length compartment is great for plant breeding tools. Surveyors tape for marking plants in the field, magic markers, scapels, tweezers, labels, etc. The external pouch on the left is just the right size for the water bottle. And the pouch on the right is for my wallet, phone, EDC knife, matches, keys, whistle, string, wire, pepper spray, Tylanol. All the stuff that is in my fanny pack when I'm not carrying the pack.

I'm contemplating carrying the pack all the time, not just in the field while plant breeding. I've never carried it with Thumper in it. But I'm hoping to take Thumper deer hunting in 2022, so am planning. I'm also wondering about the possibility of switching from my fanny pack (purse equivalent) to just carrying the pack all the time. For starters I'll leave Thumper home and just see if I can get in and out of stores without people wanting me to divest myself of the pack or wanting to search me.

I have found that the best incognito bag for a gun is actually a diaper back pack. No one will think twice and no one will want it thinking it has baby crap. They have clamshell openings to fit folded firearms and pockets for magazines (diaper pockets).
