Loose front sight - mosin 1891

Okay, so I just got my Mosin 1891, and the front sight is a bit loose. I can adjust it just by pushing it with my fingers. My fear is that it is going to get moved around in transport. Is there a way to tighten the front sight?

That's a drift adjustable dovetail? If so, remove the sight and lightly/slightly upset the "wings"/points of the dovetails so that the fit is more snug. I usually just make a couple of raised nipples/divots with a punch and a hammer right on the edges but I'm not a pro or anything.

That's quickest, easiest and cheapest! A little more trouble is to dimple the flat of the dovetail and refit the sight.

Not at all. Though I was going to bring up that they exist.
I read a book around forty years ago on the concept.

This is relatively common.

Use a brass shim and you'll be fine.
