Buy a safe and cover it. I have friends who just throw a sheet over theirs to keep it away from prying eyes.
But if you are handy, buy the safe and build a nice wood cabinet to go over it. Keeps the wife happy and keeps prying eyes away from things.
If that's not possible, you can actually buy fit covers for safes that will accomplish the same goal.

Ended up picking up a sports Afield 5520 instinct today, "18 gun". $350 out the door. Fire rated. Room for what I need and what I might grow into. Small enough it doesnt drive the wife nuts, and doesnt take a lot of space. Big enough that there's room to add some more whenever I may pick it up.
