Buy one from CMP. They currently have rifles in multiple grades within your budget range. To buy from them you need to be affiliated with a CMP related club or organization. If you're not currently, you can join the Garand Collectors Association for $25 and you'll be set.

JSJPDX is correct abt the CMP.

IMHO getting a Decent Rcvr is the top priority,
and can be done using some diplomacy w/ a sales person there....

Other parts can be added later if need be/ want to....

Their Field Grade tends to get you a good shooter w/ a NON PITTED Rcvr....

If you want Top Shelf Quality there are other options as well....
