Never really had thought about food/water in vehicles so I made up a black nylon carry bag in each. Eight Datrex block/bars and packets of water. Both are good for five plus years. One in each vehicle. Probably tastes awful but the water and bars could keep me fed/watered for 4-5 days if stranded somewhere.

Nothing beats a food garden, however if known/visible/accessible by others it will be looted in no time.

Well done. I've got datrex bars and water in both vehicles as well....and a bunch of other stuff...cash in small bills, get home bag, headlamps, flashlights change of clothes, comfy shoes, hand pumped gasoline siphon, various car trouble tools like fix-a-flat, road flares, fire extinguisher, jumper cables. n95 particle masks, taser, pepper spray, road maps for the entire western united states, blankets, first aid kit etc. etc.

True, but few Americans can grow food on demand in an emergency. Seeds take time and the right time of year.
yeah. i'm a pretty avid gardener. harvested my own radish seeds from my spring crop and planted them 2 weeks ago...so far none have come up. that's pretty bad since radishes are about the easiest veggie to grow and I'm not a newbie to gardening...there are just so many variables that can go wrong....

What is the storage life of brown rice, in plastic bucket? It is sitting in a folded over mylar packet.

I don't know for sure....but I've always heard that brown rice lasts about 6 months and white rice lasts about 20 years. quite the difference...

Brown Rice 6-mos on shelf or two years in oxygen free container. White rice is the clear winner at 20-years. Rice with dried beans makes a compete protein I think I read somewhere.

Were they heirloom seeds originally?

Yes. All amino acids are present when rice and beans are combined, creating a complete protein.
