So, a WA concealed carry does not work in Oregon, but I can drive into Multnomah County with a loaded AR in my vehicle without breaking a law?
Almost all "gun law" makes little sense. You have to remember that most of them are written by people who have no idea what they are doing. They just make up laws. Then let the courts spend years figuring out how to work them. Sadly it just keeps getting worse because so few will pay any attention to what is going on. :(

Don't ask and don't tell?

Keep things hidden and drive the speed limit.

Keep some items you don't want seen in your vehicle hidden from prying eyes.

Don't go waving your wang if you don't want recorded on camera.

Who is to say you didn't load your cd player as you exited a vehicle.

Just some random things that have nothing to do with this thread nor is it advice of any kind - just common sense stuff I've picked up along the way.

True dat. You can easily keep a sbr-sized .223 or .308 gun on the seat next to you or on floorboard in an unzipped bag. Totally hidden. Cop would have to have probable cause or ask you for permission to see cuz it's not in plain sight. Again it's currently legal in OR to have it in plain view but out of sight out of mind makes life simpler.

.223 fits in sling bag easily

8.5" .308 barely fits

YEP! If like me you don't smoke pot, your car will not smell like it. If you don't drink and drive, you will look impaired. If you do not drive in such a way as to have a neon sign on top of your car saying "PULL ME OVER", little chance you are going to have any interactions with an LEO. Only two I have had in decades were break downs. Interactions were VERY short, as in I have AAA on the way. They both times waved away my papers in hand. Now if for some reason I get stopped and they ask permission to search? I would POLITELY decline. The side of the road is not the place to argue and want to hold court. Nor is it the place to announce to the LEO that you have guns in your car.

For the guys who sleep with the ORS "Blue Book" under their pillow, there used to be an "affirmative defense" regarding a loaded firearm in a vehicle (paraphrasing from memory here, and not requiring a carry permit):

"...while traveling to or from a hunting or fishing or target shooting activity..." (or similar).

"Affirmative Defense" does not preclude a citation, but if prosecuted, such a defense must be considered.

Unknown if this has been revised.

Whip out your Bibles, boys and go to work on that one. Thanks.

Hasn't been revised as far as I can tell on that.

Edit, see also " Section 1, subsection (i)

(i)

A person who is licensed under ORS 166.291 (Issuance of concealed handgun license) and 166.292 (Procedure for issuing) to carry a concealed handgun."

"(3)Except for persons who are otherwise prohibited from possessing a firearm under ORS 166.250 (Unlawful possession of firearms) (1)(c) or 166.270 (Possession of weapons by certain felons), ORS 166.250 (Unlawful possession of firearms) does not apply to or affect:

(a)Members of any club or organization, for the purpose of practicing shooting at targets upon the established target ranges, whether public or private, while such members are using any of the firearms referred to in ORS 166.250 (Unlawful possession of firearms) upon such target ranges, or while going to and from such ranges.

(b)Licensed hunters or fishermen while engaged in hunting or fishing, or while going to or returning from a hunting or fishing expedition."
