Absolutely true! That's why I don't have weapon lights on my pistols. A hand held light is, in my opinion, better than a light on a pistol. You can bounce the light off the ceiling or walls while keeping the pistol in a low ready stance. This will give you a better view of the room than just what's in the sights and keep you ready to aim at the target, if it truly is one, regardless of where the light's shining.
That being said, a handheld light really isn't practical with a long gun like a shotgun or carbine.
