Talking with you is impossible when you say "all" unions are "socialist". It's laughable. The right-wing radio just takes words and makes up new definitions. It's so bad for our democracy. You don't even know what the word is anymore.

Soclialists believe that workers should get ALL the value of what they produce and the capitalists would get none. No union I'm aware of in the US in modern times has made that claim.

Yes, JJ, its ALL the union's fault. Why don't you deal with the fundamental fact that destroys your ENTIRE argument? Only 10% of private sector and 35% of public sector workers belong to unions anymore. How are WE controlling the economy and thus "destroying it"? At no time in US history have unions represented a MAJORITY of the workforce. Your argument just doesn't make any sense at all.

Maybe the titans of Corporate America who you love so much have let you down instead, eh? You gave them everything they wanted for 30+ years and they gave you economic wreckage instead of the promised Nirvanna of Trickle-Down economics. Isn't that the truth?

Some years ago when the socialist destroyed the economy with the "spotted" owl I did some real soul searching as to who can you trust. From those times on I worked my butt of to pay all my bills and get my house paid off because I could see what the socialist where going to do to the country.

I worked and saved and I am in a very comfortable position compared to most people. I owe no money other than monthly living exspenses. You see I could see it comming and prepared for it. It wasn't hard to look around and see all the damage the socialist were doing to the country. Look around you today and compare it to the 1980s.

Being in a union today just to save your job is like buying chinese goods, it works against America.

Good luck to you too, you are going to need it. I will move along but will give you the courtesy of the last word.

Media Advisory – The Liberal gun club Announces national convention of moderate and left-wing gun rights activists in Chicago, June 9–10

The Liberal Gun Club (LGC), which provides a voice for gun-owning liberals and moderates on gun rights, gun legislation, firearms safety, and shooting sports, is pleased to announce its first national convention in Chicago, Illinois on July 9–10, 2010. Members from Portland, OR to Boston, MA, as well as local Chicago members, will meet to discuss political action for promoting gun ownership and other civil rights as well as to meet together in the camaraderie of the shooting range.

The LCG convention will be the first national meeting joining activists from the growing number of moderate and liberal-learning gun rights organizations. Several of these groups, such as the D.C.-based Democrats for Gun Ownership (DfGO) to the edgy liberal “Gun Zine” American Gun Culture Report (AGCR), will be presenting and networking at the event.

“Discussing gun rights and responsibilities in Chicago is especially important at this time,” said LGC Executive Director, Mark Roberts. “Due to the pending Supreme Court case [McDonald v. Chicago] expected to overturn Chicago’s long-standing hand gun ban, there will soon be several million new potential hand gun owners looking for training and guidance.”

“One of the things we will be unveiling at the convention is our new Basic Firearms Course, which has just been added to the list of approved basic firearms safety courses for the state of Massachusetts,” said Roberts.

Roberts notes that many liberal and moderate gun owners do not seek appropriate firearms training because of the right-wing political rhetoric that often surrounds such courses—and shooting ranges. “But it’s essential that*gun owners who are unfamiliar with the proper operation, maintenance and storage of their firearms protect their families by also getting properly trained,” he said.

David Lauer, government affairs officer for Democrats for Gun Ownership (DfGO), sees tremendous potential for the convention to accelerate the liberal gun rights movement that has been building for several years, and which currently includes gun rights caucuses in several Democratic state parties, such as Oregon and Texas.

“It has always been our hope that we could find willing partners to this task, and indeed LGC*is just such a champion,” said Lauer. “We are excited to move forward with them*in an appeal to fellow Democrats to exercise both their First and Second Amendment rights that we might protect both in a day and age when they are sorely in need of stalwart defense.”

Ross Eliot, founder and editor of American Gun Culture Report (AGCR), agrees. "Easily defined political structures are breaking down and both AGCR and the LGC are gleefully swinging the wrecking ball. Sweeping aside stereotypes about liberals regarding firearm and self defense issues is one of the most effective ways to foster dialogue and forge relationships between Americans who didn't realize they had so much in common all this time. What took so long?"

Sorry Trism. Seems when we start a thread about particular groups then it turns into a disscussion about the group. We are all for guns around here so that is a given but it seems people should know more about who the groups are and what they stand for that support guns. Otherwise these threads are meaningless if we don't discuss who they are.

What I find most significant as far as tangible accomplishments by the LGC is their work getting Massachusetts to adopt their curriculum for firearm safety. I talked with Mark Roberts about it and apparently it's a non-political course he developed in conjunction with several others having both military and LE experience as well as NRA instructional familiarity. I doubt there would be a functional difference between an NRA or LGC class except that people who are ideologically skeptical of the former will be more likely to sign up. It's fun to argue left/right, sweet/savory but we can probably all agree that a variety of options for shooting classes is healthy so as to include a wider social spectrum.

Some people just find guns to be offensive and will never look on them with the same love that we do.

I remember showing my firearm to a 55-60 year old Kenyan woman who was a US Citizen. I offered her free ammunition if she went shooting with me and she was not at all enthused about trying my laser sighted Beretta M9 out.

Some people will never like guns at all because they can be tools for killing, they do tend to have an aura around them that other tools do not. But in the looks department, I think my open slide Beretta M9 looks totally bad ***, how can anyone not love it?

The decision was made by the local Democrat majority government, and that decision was not even close to the White House, let alone any Republican Lawmaker.
It was then put into play by the City police and (possibly) assisted by a few of the military that were working arm and arm with police

my father is a perfect example. we've had left vs. right debates for most of my life... i finally sat down with him and drew out the "political spectrum," and listed on the spectrum all the different important aspects of political alignment. on a scale of 0-100, with 0 on the far left being communism and 100 on the far right being anarchy, he landed at about a 85. he flipped his lid, accused me of making it up, called it bull bubblegum, etc.
