As Jesse Ventura said, "American politics is just like professional wrestling," meaning BushObamaPelosiCheneyKennedySchumerLieberman are all working for THE MAN. And by that I mean the top 2% of the power elite that own 98% of the world's wealth. Both parties work for the banks, the oil companies, the military industrial complex, the drug and insurance companies and AIPAC. There isn't room between the two parties to take a leak without getting some $300 shoes wet. They don't work for us and the liberal/conservative ideological split is one the ways they keep us divided and conquered; racism is another way.

They are currently in the process of completely poisoning the Gulf Coast so they can evacuate it and then foreclose and buy up all the beach front property for pennies. Then they will clean up the mess. They are also about to start another useless, criminal war with Iran purely for profit. Billions more that should be spent on our infrastructure will be wasted on blowing up Iran's. Thousands more of our brave young people will die for the oil companies. It isn't about liberals against conservatives anymore, it's about a government that is of, by and for the corporations against the people. Bubba and Lefty need to wake up to who the real enemy is and cover each other's back. Let's get our country back and then debate the fine points of how to run it justly for all the people. God bless America and defeat her enemies domestic as well as foreign.

Do you feel better after that rant;) I agree with your statement though. In the end I don't think any of the three branches of government give a darn about the citizens they are sworn to serve. They care about who will give them the most benefits.... namely corporations and their lobbyists.

I wish someone would introduce a law requiring Members of Congress and the President to wear suits that had the labels/logos (in proportion to the donation) of everyone that gave them money (at least the large donors) Nascar-Style.

Think about it. Dems and Reps rank and file would support it. It would make politics way more entertaining. And, we'd get to see--front and center--who "owns" our politicians.

Maybe we just make them wear the suits on July 4th...and they have to appear in public!

(P.S. The line about taking a leak without hitting $300 shoes was awesome!!:s0114:)

Dude. Really? Just because Glenn Beck tells you unions run the world, doesn't make it true. Why won't you actually look up expenditures in politics (corporations outspend unions 12 (or 14) to 1 every Presidential election cycle? You might want to look at where our politicians acted swiftly and as bi-partisans...i.e. the bank bailouts...to see who really owns them. BTW...union membership in the banking industry is nearly zero.:s0114:

Funny how you group all unions as one monolithic bloc, but don't do the same for corporations. If you don't think unions disagree on issues, you aren't paying attention. Anyway, you might want to view this site...

Top Industries Giving to Members of Congress, 2010 Cycle | OpenSecrets

It groups the contributions by 'industry'. You will see the first group of unions shows up at #14...yes, #14.

Is your theory still holding up against these facts?

You will also quickly note that once you add up various corporate industries, it far exceeds the contributions of all the unions together.

P.S. I know "dude" isn't fashionable any longer...but being raised as a conservative, I learned not to follow the trends and to talk and dress how I wanted to. I'd figure we could agree on that one? Dude is a great word, you can have it back when you pry it from my cold, dead, tongue.

Done for the day, gotta make my next million on the Socialist Day Trading Market;)

Thanks for that chart, I suggest everyone study it closely it shows 5 things.

1. Out of the top 50 recipient of lobbyist money 43 are democrats 7 are republicans.

2. If you look at the actual break down the Democrats as a whole take in more than double the special interest money that Republicans do.

3. Harry Reid and Charles Schumer take up 20 of the fifty slots all by themselves.

4. One can easily see that the Democrats are bought and paid for by special interests and are just lackeys to the rich!

5. Wake up Democrats! those guys aren't your friends!

I agree with your five points. I just have one to add...

6. Republicans aren't any better just because they get less money. They just have poorer corporate friends:s0112:

Actually, the corporations throw the money depending on how they see the wind blowing. Check out the previous election cycles where Republicans won, such as 2000. The numbers reverse.

Um, Dude... about "unka" George.... try the BILLIONAIRES' CLUB, and he's entangled in MANY, MANY anti-American activities and organizations. i.e Tides Foundation, ACORN (now defamed and re-invented), Apollo Alliance, etc. They're all interconnected, with the same players i.e. Van Jones, Andy Stern, etc.

He's heavily invested in Brazilian oil company, Petrobras, which is in competition with BP (nothing wrong with that on it's surface)... (but) to which Obama's appointed cronies gave $2 billion in loan guarantees for exploratory drilling.... so "unka" George Soros will be making loads of money from importing more FOREIGN OIL, while our own Gulf States' economies and domestic oil production will continue to suffer..... all on the backs of the U.S. Taxpayer. It's not about ideology, doctrine, or dogma... those are merely tools to be used to manipulate the masses. It's ALWAYS about the money, follow the money-trail; lefty's and righty's alike... remember, the LOVE OF money is the root of ALL evil.

Both political parties STINK ON ICE!!

Over 50 % of all union employees are government workers, now do you understand why the country is so fouled up?

That's because in the private sector there are NO effective penalties for bosses who decide to fire the leaders of a union organizing drive. How come you aren't "tough on crime" when they are violating our Right to Assembly (which the laws that allow workers the freedom to join a union is based upon)? If you believe in Freedom, maybe you should support freedom of speech and assembly on the job without having to lose your livelihood to do so.

Even with your numbers...65% of all Gov't workers DO NOT belong to a union...and 90% of private sector workers DO NOT belong to a union. Using your logic, maybe its our mostly NON-union status that accounts for how messed up things are for everyday Americans?

In fact, in the 1940's-1960's when 35% of Private Sector workers were IN unions, things were pretty darned good, weren't they? Our pay was higher (when adjusted for inflation), we had good healthcare, and secure pensions.

The decline of living standards for EVERYDAY Americans began in the early 1970's...this is also when the assault against unions began and the numbers began to fall. In fact, it was explicitly part of the Neo-Conservatives agenda to get rid of our manufacturing jobs because they were mostly unionized...so it fit nicely into their political agenda.

You should really look up the facts. The worldwide's top 10% is making out like bandits and lowering workers' standards across the globe...meanwhile we are fighting each other over what political label we want to wear or the color of our skin. Wake up.

Turn off Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh...why anyone who works for a living would take political advice from some multi-millionaires is beyond me.

Face it JJ...we followed the neo-conservative agenda to a T since 1980: globalization at all costs, smash the unions, privatize gov't services, tax cuts for the rich, stop investing in all things public (like roads, schools, etc)...it just didn't WORK...except for the top 10%, of course.

It's fun watching Glenn Beck froth over Soros...while turning a blind eye to the dozens of billionaires who fund the right wing agenda. Soros stands out just because how rare he is...a billionaire who funds some left wing causes.

You might want to actually visit some those groups' websites before you call them "anti-American".

But--we do agree on one point...there is FAR TOO MUCH money in our political system. Most efforts to get rid of that are supported by the "evil" lefties. I just haven't ever heard Beck, Limbaugh or any so-called conservatives call for getting ALL the money out of our political system. That would step on the "rights" that corporations now have to Free Speech. Funny how we live in an age where Corporations have MORE rights than Americans...how come you all aren't upset by that?

Actually, the corporations throw the money depending on how they see the wind blowing. Check out the previous election cycles where Republicans won, such as 2000. The numbers reverse.

Yes, who the Committee chairs matters a lot on how contributions happen. We need to get Money out of Politics...unfortunately the Citizens United Supreme Court decision (5-4...the "conservative": justices voted for it, the "liberals" against) will put MORE money into politics.

Ask yourself why all unions are socialist? Why do we never see a union that stands behind the constitution and for capitalism? Without capitalist there can be no jobs. Unions want to tell their employers that they are worth more even if the company is loseing money then blame it on the company. Unions are being used to tear down our country just like they tear down companies.

When the jobs are gone who do you bargin with? You guys allready run most of the jobs overseas so now you organize government employees and soak the taxpayer. You are never going to understand the truth as you belong to a union anymore than a liberal can understand about guns and the constitution. Understand that most union workers are libs and a vote for a lib is a vote agianst our rights. I saw a program today where the libs want to tax all gun and ammo sales.

Being a lib and a gun supporter just doesn't stand to reason if you vote for gun grabbers.

jj

Edited to add, telling people who to listen to and who not to listen to is a symptom of somebody against free speech, a socialist. How can you ever find the truth if you only listen to your union side? Guess if you won't listen then this can't be about the truth then can it?:D

Talking with you is impossible when you say "all" unions are "socialist". It's laughable. The right-wing radio just takes words and makes up new definitions. It's so bad for our democracy. You don't even know what the word is anymore.

Soclialists believe that workers should get ALL the value of what they produce and the capitalists would get none. No union I'm aware of in the US in modern times has made that claim.

Yes, JJ, its ALL the union's fault. Why don't you deal with the fundamental fact that destroys your ENTIRE argument? Only 10% of private sector and 35% of public sector workers belong to unions anymore. How are WE controlling the economy and thus "destroying it"? At no time in US history have unions represented a MAJORITY of the workforce. Your argument just doesn't make any sense at all.

Maybe the titans of Corporate America who you love so much have let you down instead, eh? You gave them everything they wanted for 30+ years and they gave you economic wreckage instead of the promised Nirvanna of Trickle-Down economics. Isn't that the truth?

Anyway, good luck to you!

"Yes, who the Committee chairs matters a lot on how contributions happen. We need to get Money out of Politics...unfortunately the Citizens United Supreme Court decision (5-4...the "conservative": justices voted for it, the "liberals" against) will put MORE money into politics."

Not allowing companies to spend their money on "freedom of speech" is against the constitution. When you own a business does that mean you are no longer an American? Someday I hope you will figure out this isn't about your job but about the country. Without employers there can be no country and no jobs.
