Didn't even know there was a thread for this topic: 17 darkhorse with a lot of work. Actually thinking of putting it up soon. Next is a custom build rigid frame 88 and 96 in with rubber mounting bracket to swap motors when one blows. Taking my time with this one as it was suppose to be a build with the old man .

Got this bike in prep for a bit of a long distance summer road trip. After the trip, I'll unload it and get another enduro. Too many awesome trails out here to stay on the pavement.

think I'm ready to buy a different bike.
I think I'm ready for dresser/bagger. I just need plenty of power.
Warning long winded but hope to to help.

What's plenty of power ? What is your riding experience? What are you coming off of? I ask this as bikes are like firearms.


What may be plenty of power or right for me may not be for you. The victory your looking at if memory serves is 106 "ci" and a 6 speed. It's a heavy bike though. I ride a 111 chief dark horse plenty a power for me.

Are you not able to ride the bike before you buy it?

That should give you some what of an idea.

If not this is the advice I offer.

Is it going to be a 10 second bike and keep up with rockets? Absolutely not!

Are you going to feel like you bailed hay for a month straight after a 300 mile + ride and have to feel up three times? nope!

Is it going to leave you wanting more? maybe again really depends on riding experience and what your looking for. I guess all bikes may feel like that at times.

I came from a strong dirt bike quad background before actually going to the pavement .

My first legal bike was a 2003 f4i and I bought it new. Gives you an idea of how long I have been riding legally. Like i said I now ride a 17 chief dark horse with the 111"ci" hard bags, windscreen, crashbars, a fair amount of weight….

I'm putting a rigid together that is going to be under 500lbs and all motor. street light to street light It should hold its own against anything out there.

I ride all year round, and have been down twice ridden quite a few variants of motorcycles.

My current 111 not much bigger than the 106 and close to the same weight is just fine for me. I'm 6ft and about 200 lbs.
I personally think the victory would be just fine as far as power.

However, as others have said Polaris pushed victory out to focus on the Indian models .

It's cool that you have a 5 year service setup but that may be in house only.

This may make it tough if your far from home , and even if not may want to ask what happens after the five years?

Personally unless it's a steal and/ or you have fallen in love with the bike I may look at other models.

Parts are available but expensive and Polaris kinda burnt victory riders. Again all personal opinion.
 
I've been riding 22 years.
I don't just putt around town.
800-1000 miles days are my zen place.
Ive ridden a variety of bikes and am currently on a Vtx 1800. It's been reliable, power is there, and I have it setup just right.
Im not worried about curb weight.
It needs power, can handle the twisties, and be comfy for long hauls. My boy is just about old enough for a road trip ride, 2 up. That's what this is about more than anything.

Victory is producing parts until 2027 for their bikes.
I'm not concerned about that side of things. Most accounts I have seen is that they are reliable if maintained correctly.

If HD would actually produce a motor thats capable of power that matches the price tag without the recalls I might be interested.

800-1000 in a day is more than I like to ride so your a better person than I lol.

I'm usually around that 500 -600 a day and ready to shut down. You can get more power out the victory rather easy.

I disagree with the statement above that the Indian is a victory motor.

That's not the case as Indian uses pushrods victory did not to my understanding . Now victory was dropped to focus on the Indian from Polaris and many victory riders kinda got burned from Polaris on that one.

However, to say they are the same is not the case. That's like saying the v6 camero and the v8 are the same.

I would see if you can ride the bike before you buy. Have you looked at the Indians, or if a Honda fan why not the gold wing ?

Not a fan of the GW, mostly from a maintenance standpoint. Some of the procedures require taking a lot of chit apart to get to some simple things. That is my understanding from a few GW owners. The F6B is appealing as it is a stripped down version. They are plenty nimble in the twisties, i had a friend that rode his GW like a sport bike. Amazing fun to ride with him and watch the bike through the corners.

Indian seems to be hit or miss. I have read some troubling reports of electrical issues.
I just dont like the looks of them. Whether they are the old school original production bike or the Polaris production bikes.

The M109 looks interesting but seems to be quirky. I dont want to deal with a quirk 1700 miles from home, in the mountains, with no cell access, and no shops nearby.

The victory seems to fit the bill, even if it is a bit boring. I can change that up with modifications and some work in the garage.
