I'm really sick of logic being completely ignored in the "gun debate" so I had a thought this morning: Why not co-opt the left's talking points and propose our own legislation?

Here's what I think we should do:
  • Propose a bill in Congress with a catchy name like "The Gun Violence Prevention Act of 2015"
  • Make the focus of the law on
    • improved mental health care
    • implementation of nationwide reciprocity
    • deny federal funds to any state, county or city entity that exhibits sanctuary tendencies
    • deny federal funds for any Gun-Free Zone
    • throw in something for the "children"
    • etc.
  • Then tie it up so no "gun control" items can be added and pass it through the house and senate with whoever will vote for it
If it really is about keeping people safe, let our brainless leader veto this one!

Addition:
--Make Basic Weapons Safety, like the NRA Eddie Eagle Program, a curriculum requirement for any K-12 institution receiving Federal funds.
--Add a refundable tax credit equal to the nationwide average cost of an entry-level AR for any taxpayer who participates in the Civilian Marksmanship Program with documentation of said participation.

good idea, but easier said than done. First, it takes a lot of money. Second, if its a new law or legislation your referring to it will get slaughtered in the legislative process and turned around into a gun control act. It starts out as a good idea and turns into a compromise....

Also. Do as the Swiss do, introduce a law that requires gun owners to practice target shooting at least once a year. In the case of the Swiss it is to maintain a competent "Home Guard" organization in the event of foreign invasion.

it would never pass because the antis want all the guns registered.

Only as a step to having them banned altogether. These disillusioned people walking into cinemas and schools with legally bought firearms purchased from dealers are not thinking about the day after their killing spree.

I think this is a good idea especially the emphasis on mental health and education. I think firearms groups like this making a public show of support to "black lives Matter" and similar organizations would be very good too.

What we really need is a politically neutral media. IMO they will continue to influence more about America's march towards socialism than any other single factor. Perhaps this has always been the case, I really don't know, but it sure seems to have gotten increasingly single minded with each passing decade. I wonder why some of the mega $$$$ conservative folks have not sought to level this playing field.

In August 2010, Breitbart told the Associated Press that he was "committed to the destruction of the old media guard." As part of that commitment, he founded Breitbart.com, a website designed to become "the Huffington Post of the right."

It seems to me there is a different perceptions on guns vs shooting sports. But how do we begin to steer the conversation away from all the harm bad people do with a firearm and promote the good trifeca of guns i.e. sports, defence, and hunting.

How about we make gun free zones in the Middle East to solve all the violence there. While we're doing that we should also implement 10 round magazines and prevent further manufacture of pistol grips on ARs and AKs.

According to our president that should work.... right?o_O

If we want to get our own legislation that may actually do some good, how about asking for increased funding for ALICE training in our schools. Add to that, funding for training for the designated defenders. I'm not talking about a basic NRA or CHL course, I mean an extensive, 40 hr minimum course taught by professionals and with local law enforcement input, coordination, and attendance. Live fire exercises would be mandatory. Don't leave it up to the local school districts to come up with the money for the training or for the firearms and ammunition, make it state or federal grant money. This is real protection for our children, not some stupid hide and hope strategy.

If Portland and Eugene area schools don't want to participate, then make it mandatory to receive other funding.

if the antis squawk about this type of legislation, then their true colors come out. If they don't want protection for our children, then it really is about control and not about guns.
