For the record, I can't stand websites that suddenly decide to start sending automated e-mails and then require you to login to shut it off. Normally I intentionally report it as spam to help ensure they end up on blacklists. This annoying practice is one of my bigger pet peeves when it comes to e-mail.

Are you saying you're getting 'latest topics' emails from NWFA? That's weird, I've never received anything like that from them in the whole time I've been here - only updates to watched threads, which I've requested to be sent to me.

It makes sense that you would have to log in to change settings in your profile (which is where I think that setting would be). Otherwise one might be able to shut off anybody's notifications.
