I wanted to get it done in 2020, because reasons!

Didn't happen.

I have everything lined up to do it this year and I'm determined to get it done.

Looking to get some tips on various clinics that you have had it performed, and what you spent?

Thanks!

Reno

PNW Eye Associates. Dr. Patel. Had mine done, cataracts. Vision is 20/10 right. 20/15 left. I opted for the out of pocket IOL lenses.

Hands down best investment I ever made.

It's he best money I ever spent.
This makes me feel very good about moving forward with this. I can't wait. I've had eyeglasses since I was 9. Wore contact lenses from 12-late 20s before back to glasses as my eyes started to not like wearing contact lenses all day long.

I'm so ready to say goodbye to my glasses!!!

It's not a permanent fix. Your eyes will go bad as you get older. I was warned that I would eventually need reading glasses and I do.
My arms have gotten too short again. The big thing for me is they're even. I had one eye that was really bad and one that was only off a little bit. Now both are the same. I don't need two lens strengths to see.

From all I've researched, I'm ok with the fact it isn't permanent. If I get a solid 10 years of no glasses before things start getting bad again, I'd say that a hell of an investment in oneself.

Dr. Niraj Patel said I "might" need reading glasses later in life. Had this done 2 years ago. Only need 1.0 readers on tiny print, very close up. Anything over 18" is perfectly clear. Even better, i can focus the rear sight, front sight, and the target. Simultaneously. Makes for good groups. :)

Yes. That's an honest 4" group at 50 yards. But, I was having an unusualy good day..

Wifey has had a similar experience with her laser eye fix. That was about 15+ years ago I think. About 42 YO at the time. She had hers done at the OHSU Casey Eye Institute by a well known eye specialist. Seemed kind of weird, those places that sound like "production line" places. A couple weeks after the procedure the doc decided the she needed a slight tweek and cut a little more off one eye. He basically gave her better vision by a slight adjustment for one eye for close vision and the other for longer vision. It was great for her. Her eyes were quite bad. The one issue was, she's right eye dominant, but when shooting she need to use her left eye. There's some confusion there. Be sure to let the doc know that you're a precision shooter. It might make a difference in the procedure.

Actually we just went and ordered glasses for her because driving in the dark or rain she found wearing my old glasses made things slightly clearer/less glare. Got her sunglasses to for when were on the road or fishing.

For those that had this done; what was the recovery period like? A pain or no biggie? Thanks.
From everyone I've talked to, pretty much none. Sunglasses for a week, maybe a minor headache.

Everyone I've spoken to states the fear and anxiety leading up is the worst part. All the insurance the doctor gives you still won't fix a F up to something as important as your vision...

How old are you? If you are getting up there you might want to consider that cataracts are quite common with aging, so you may want to consider lens replacement, which deals with that. You could get LASIK correction then have cataracts later. I had ~ 13% loss in light transmission before I got mine done in '16. It was right from Mr. Magoo to top gun vision with 1 easy procedure for each eye. I still need readers, but the new lenses may do away with that. I had it done @ Virginia Mason by Dr. Lugo-Kaman. Pain was negligible. You need to use antibiotic eye drops and avoid sources of eye irritation for a while. I found it to be nothing short of miraculous.

What I spent would be irrelevant because I have Boeing retiree insurance. Don't know MSRP.

I used to be near-sighted and had 20/400 (correctable).... BTW- 20/200 un-correctable is legally blind.

I wore glasses (off and on) through childhood and wore contact lenses (when I got my first real paying job at 16) all through my Army career.... sometimes I wore them for over 30 days straight w/o taking them out (because "reasons" in the jungles down south).... never damaged my eyes, thankfully.

Then I got LASIK done WAY back in the mid/late 90's (at $3k PER EYE back then) with a Radial Keratotomy enhancement in the left eye afterwards (because of an astigmatism) and I wound up with 20/15 vision in both eyes (better than normal).... oh HELL YEAH, it was best $6k I ever spent.

Now I'm in my mid 50's and as my eyes have aged, my vision has "settled" (so far) at 20/20 in the right eye (my dominate eye) and 20/22.5 (the optometrist said somewhere between 20/20 & 20/25... so, yeah) in the left eye, and (of course) I now need reading glasses like a typical "grandpa" aged dude.

Bonus fact: as you age, your eye's lens become less flexible for focusing (as you squint) to focus on things up close... so don't laugh, y'all will (eventually) suffer the wrath of aging! ;)

That is my understanding too; pretty minor/nonissue on recovery. I've been through a number of surgeries over the years, so don't have any real anxiety about medical procedures, but eyesight is a biggie.

I'm a little anxious as to the thought of losing my vision.

I made an appointments with three of the clinics in the area. Consultations and pricing I'm guessing. All squared away to move forward! Looking forward to not having glasses or contacts!!!

I went to Crews Lasik in Vancouver last December. Cost was less than $2K. Very professional. The actual surgery experience was a little "twilight zone" as I was fully awake and aware of what was going on. Since it was in December having your eye flaps carved out to Christmas music is a bit disturbing. However, I could not be happier. I've worn glasses for the past twenty years and they have always been in the way; sports, hiking, driving have all been a chore (especially night driving!). The day of surgery was miserable (you'll need someone to care for you) but I was able to drive the next day just fine. My light sensitivity has increased so I need to wear dark shades when it's bright but I can see detail that I've never seen before...even when I wore glasses. Some nights I go out just to look at the stars and am in wonder that I can really "see" for the first time in my life.

I work in an eye clinic. Some things to know about LASIK, if you're in your 50s, it won't last long. You'll need correction for up close and intermediate range. When your cataracts start to come in, the benefits of LASIK will slowly diminish. It can cause dryness and glare/halos. If you shoot pistol ironsights, you will need glasses. Most people love it because it gets them out of glasses or contacts.
