In a small town that claims to be the "Real West" a bank employee freaked out because an upset customer happened to be open carrying. From the sounds of it, she was in the drive thru and discovered her account balance was less than it should be, probably due to some BS bank fees. Rather than hold up the line of cars, she parked in the triple digit heat and went in to the bank with her small child. The bank does not have any no carry signs posted.

At first I thought the carrier may have over reacted at being robbed by her bank, but:

According to the Police Chief her pistol "never, ever was cleared from the holster, nor were there any specific verbal threats made or any movements made toward the firearm. There was no demand for money, no verbal threats, no physical threats."

Yet the employee felt obligated to call police and falsely report a person wielding a gun and holding hostages. Which of course caused a multi-agency armed response and shut down Main Street.

Sounds like it was the bank that overreacted.

I just recently had to go through crap with my bank...because I deposited $10k at once, they adjusted my account to an "Advantage Checking Account". Well, when I removed the $10k and placed it into savings, they began to charge me a $25 "Monthly Advantage Maintenance Fee" because I had a balance of less than $5k in it.

Almost made me rage quit and switch banks...I got the fees back and the account reverted...but it just goes to show you they will find any reason to fee you...regardless of anything you've signed up for.

The bank was Bank of America, by the way...not a bank I would recommend going to.

Interestingly, the tribal police let her go as well. It's really difficult to know what they are going to do. Reservations, State lines, county ordinances all make OCing or even legally and properly CCing tricky.

The bank is in the center of Pendleton and not on the Indian Reservation. These small towns and counties have such small staffs so when the call goes out that something big is going down all local agencies respond. Yes all of the Reservation is a No Firearms zone unless you want to bribe the Tribal judge and Police $50 a year to get a may issue permit for one weapon. If you CC or OC in your vehicle while traveling on the freeway, you are fine. Maybe the same for State Hiways, but not Reservation roads and don't even think about it in the Casino.

Back to the story, I am upset that the bank employee out right lied about the customer to get the police there.

I dropped it few years ago since they did not support gun business loans. My English is not as good as lots of members here, but when I closed my business, personal and all the credit card account I did let" them know that "because they are not supporting gun business I am removing myself from Bank of America."

Most of the casino are not on Indian Reservation they use Indian tribe name to open the casino. I did verified with OSP. Yes if you have permit you can conceal carry, if they ever see your gun they will ask you to leave.

Roberts said law enforcement responded in force to the call, which indicated a person wielding a gun and holding hostages. In addition to Pendleton police, Tribal officers and FBI agents from the local office also came to the scene.

FBI agents in Pendleton? That made me LOL a little bit.

One thing you might take away from this story is that if you choose to open carry and you need to have a confrontation with someone, in this case a bank teller, that may even become the slightest bit heated, it's probably better to either lock your gun in the car or switch to CC. It's one thing to see someone OC when they're just acting 'normal', but come in agitated or upset, and you're far more likely to get that kind of response from the bank staff. No justification for the teller lying about the situation, but still a good point to remember - when you carry, you need to be even more vigilant about keeping your emotions in check. In this case, the article says she became "highly agitated" - definitely not the kind of emotions you want to express while open carrying a gun.

I'm not sure about this particular case, but I believe we will be seeing more of this in the future. I can see scenario where members of anti-freedom groups start using this tactic in hopes of costing the city enough money, creating enough hassle, and gaining enough news coverage from each incident that people demand change.

This tactic is a similar to "swatting", but they would say things like "I thought I saw him waving a gun around" or "I was in fear for my life" even if someone just walks in with a holstered gun and doesn't cause any trouble.

It is far more "likely" for a sheep to over exaggerate, but this does just go to show that people that carry are just everyday people. Some are jerks, some are saints, some are hot headed, NONE OF WHICH MEANS THAT THEY ARE WILLING TO KILL OR THREATEN ANOTHER OVER A TRIVIAL ISSUE.

The only way to acclimate the climate is to see more people with guns doing every day tasks.

Just my thoughts. You don't have to agree and I respect your counter opinion. :)

I don't have a 'favorite anti-freedom group' nor know who those posters are representing, but it's an extreme, that's obvious.

Good to know what the lunatic fringe is talking about, though.

Another good reason to be discreet, don't give up all your secrets to fools.

Ah I forgot to include the name: Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. There's an old saying "Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer" that I like to go by.

That's an understatement but I did like what # 2 said about "Running screaming, pulling fire alarms and leaving by the emergency exit" - that will will most likely get her noticed by LEO - and for a lot more than reporting someone OC. These people are way over the edge.

And when did we become wackos and nut jobs as outlined by scholar # 4, Fred Trouser Trout.
