It was a U shaped bike lock, and only a misdemeanor.

From my understanding there was 1 person charged with a hate crime for this "knock out game" and it was a white man in Texas who hit a black person. I could be wrong but I used to follow this stuff closely and that is what I remember.

He was right though. Water parks in northern Europe can't state the race of the rapist who have what I'd dub a "rape game" that happens with high frequency, similar epidemic in Britain involving even police cover up, now this in America, that we know about. It's the double standard that upsets me. If some one gets caught knowingly doing something that our government and national media needs to cover up then that person should be subjected to the harshest punishments we allow.

Exactly. Good old western democracy. Everybody get back to working and buying the stuff we want you to right now. Nothing to worry or think about is happening. Back to work now, seriously. -BREAKING NEWS- "Milley Sirus says Donald Trump is a poopoo head, top university professors respond." OR the old man bites dog trick which works every time.

Locally I am more concerned about our members. You simply cannot walk down the street of Portland or Seattle wearing a Trump Make America Great Again hat without getting attacked. And most are cowardly from behind attacks.

Example from August 4th in Portland

Antifa throws water bottle at and argues with citizen. Antifa with a skateboard punches the citizen from behind knocking him down. Female Antifa assaults the downed citizen with bear spray.

In WA state you can file a crime victims claim with the Department of Labor and Industries. It will help with medical bills and time off work if any. It isn't a lot but the medical especially can help. The idea behind the crime victims claim is that the state pays to house, feed, educate, and provide medical care for criminals when often the victims of such crimes face huge obstacles -- so it seemed fair to help the victims.

OP, multiple factor(s) come into play, age & frailty of the victim, age of the perp, and you get the picture as decided by the judicial system.

ORS 163.165 assault in 3rd degree under 1(b) ‘Recklessly causes serious physical injury to another under circumstances manifesting extreme indifference to the value of human life;’ could be leved ORS 163.165 - Assault in the third degree - 2017 Oregon Revised Statutes

ORS 163-160 assault 4th degree, (1) A person commits the crime of assault in the fourth degree if the person:
(a)Intentionally, knowingly or recklessly causes physical injury to another; ORS 163.160 - Assault in the fourth degree - 2017 Oregon Revised Statutes

    Can be misdemeanor or felony

Sorry, yes OR has victim compensation, Oregon Department of Justice - Crime Victims Services & Survivors Division - Crime Victims Portal

Yes, I am advocating that a sneak attack from behind or the side that cannot be defended against should by law be the circumstance manifesting extreme indifference which automatically bumps the charge up to a felony. The "ethics professor" who sneak attacked with a metal bike lock should not have been able to plead down to a misdemeanor with probation only.
