"But why we do need eight-inch or ten-inch kitchen knives with points?"

That's it. I'm tired of those idiots. Time for a 40 foot wall around Great Britain. Once it's complete, start pumping in the sea water.

Look at this dopey looking Monty Python loon....

As a result - said the judge - the most common knife a youth will take out is eight to ten inches, long and pointed, from his mother's cutlery tray.

He asked: "But why we do need eight-inch or ten-inch kitchen knives with points? Butchers and fishmongers do, but how often, if at all, does a domestic chef use the point of an eight-inch or ten-inch knife? Rarely, if at all."

Acknowledging that any blade could cause injury, the judge pointed out "slash wounds are rarely fatal."

That motherbubblegummer has no idea what three quick slashes to particular bodily places that can be inflicted in less three seconds can do to make you FATALLY bleed out within 45-120 seconds....

The only safe knife to use is a sharp knife.

For what it's worth, today's table knife with the blunt rounded end are traditionally attributed to Cardinal Richelieu around 1637, as he disliked guests picking their teeth with the knife-points. In 1669, King Louis LIV of France actually banned pointed knives in the palace and in public, insisting the blunt tips would reduce violence. Nothing new under the sun, etc.

The only "safe" knife is a sharp knife.
Also a 8 to 10 inch bladed knife is handy for carving a roast , ham , turkey etc...
Not to forget to mention that the "heft" of those longer blades , often helps in chopping and slicing.

Again blaming the item for a person's misuse of said item....makes no sense and solves nothing.

So, what is keeping anybody, including teenagers, from putting a point back on any knife?

What is keeping anybody from making a knife from almost anything?

Shanks are very popular in prison - one of the most restricted environment around.

And to think that this loon is actually a Judge who makes life changing decisions for others. He should be sent off to traffic court and limited to hearing cases of contested parking tickets.
