That K31 I posted yesterday has the tag under the backplate. I googled the name and address and he came up. I was wondering if I should drop him a letter but perhaps I shouldn't.

My cousin said that while there is still a strong gun culture in Switzerland, the socialists there are really gaining ground and are hellbent on gun control and destroying that culture. I could understand how a Swiss former K31 owner might feel a little bitter about his old service rifle being sent to some civilian overseas, while their rights are being stripped from them in Switzerland.

MountianBear, This guy is in the Willamette Valley somewhere, a K31 guy. He buys and fixes them up and usually eventually sells them. I'm sure he would be a good resource for you.

That response is exactly why we had a native Swiss compose the letter to the owner, or his descendant. Some are happy to share, and others are not - it's a 50/50 chance you take.

I had some help initiating my contact. I can't now remember how it came about, but I met a Swiss woman who helped me. I have some German but hers was better, plus she was a Swiss citizen. She schmoozed the old gentleman for me. We have to remember as gun enthusiasts, most people do not share our enthusiasm. In fact, some people find the fascination quite puzzling. And might wonder about the motivations of someone in another country contacting them about a service rifle of long gone times. As we are now deeply into the cyber age, their first thought might be that it's a scam designed to somehow beat them out of money.

Good timing, Classic Firearms just got in a shipment of Swiss rifles.

I went to Classic and didn't see any K31's but I see SKS are $419! Man oh man, they use to give those away. Anyway, I finally found the video Classic had on the K31s. Rare and hard to find, they'll sell out soon. $549.99 for the rifle, $649.99 for the K31 with Bayonets I think he said. Seems reasonable next to a SKS.

That video is 10 months old. I'm sure those went a long time ago and they are selling new imports. They had K 31's a week ago.

There is a seller from Tennessee on Gunbroker.com (mach1arsenal) who has imported many K-31's, they are going for about $500 plus $30 ship to the West Coast. Judging from the photos they seem to have a little cosmo on them. I saw them this morning, there may still be some left.

EDIT: just checked and again and looks like they're gone this morning, but might be worth reaching out to the seller, [email protected]

Finally got to shoot a K31 today. It's a different bird. Lollipop hold at 200 yard gong at ARPC made it ring pretty regular. Might have to work towards getting one...

Nah, it was just a roll in the hay. I needed to put some more work on paper, but I just took too much joy in ringing the gong.
Next time out, I'll put that K31 on paper and see if it's worth sacrificing something else to get one...

I shot one for the first time in January and I thought it was smooth, a little bit less recoil than an 8mm Mauser or an 03 Springfield. The only thing that was weird was the bolt.
