Justice Dept. rolls out new program to combat gun violence

Attorney General William Barr is announcing a new law enforcement initiative to reduce gun violence across the U.S.

As part of the program, U.S. prosecutors will coordinate with state and local law enforcement officials to consider potential federal charges when a suspect is arrested for weapons possession, is believed to have used a gun to commit a violent crime or drug-trafficking offense or is suspected of being a violent gang member.

Federal law defines nine categories that would prohibit someone from being legally allowed to own or possess a firearm. They include being convicted of any felony charge or a misdemeanor domestic violence, being subject to a restraining order or active warrants, being dishonorably discharged from the military, being addicted to drugs, renouncing your U.S. citizenship or being in the country illegally or being involuntarily committed to a mental health institution or being found by a court to be "a mental defective."

Prosecutors will particularly focus on offenders who have violent backgrounds, are gang members or who have faced domestic violence charges.

The new program will also help enhance ATF's crime gun intelligence efforts, which the agency uses to identify and target criminals and identify where they get their guns.

That may be fine and dandy for some parts of the country, but what are they going to do in the leftist cities, counties and states that refuse to prosecute, let alone charge drug addicts, drug dealers, criminals, gang members and illegal aliens? The irony is that these very leftist enclaves are the ones screeching the loudest about having to "do something about gun violence", yet refuse to do anything meaningful. Them calling for numerous gun bans/restrictions instead of actually going after the bad guys, only shows that they are disingenuous about their own motto; "if it save's just one life".

That was exactly Wayne LaPierre's point about the Clinton gun control laws. Since there was no prosecution, he surmised that they needed a certain level of continuing violence and death to further their agenda.
