Just had a very questionable gun selling experience. Any advice?

Sounds good to me . If he does not shun the BGC I
Wouldnr worry about it. Have seen it and done it before when a pawn shop attempts to totally bend over a woman selling her late husband's guns.

136th and SE Powell, northeast corner. They charge 20 for the transfer and OSP gets another 10 on top of that.
I use them for all of my transfers and the occasional "off-the-rack" purchase. In fact, I usually try to check-in w Peter (the owner) before I buy something online to give him a chance to get close (within 50 bucks) of the online purchases' OTD price. He's honest enough to tell ya when there's no way he can get there. If you buy from the store he'll eat the OSP charge and there's no transfer fee.

I've used Tigard Pawn 4 More and Money Market on Powell. Money market is in kind of a crappy part of Powell but I figure it's closer to you. The guy and his wife were just nice and business like. I knew you had a guy out of his house but I'm thinking it might be more comforting to go to a shop/store front that has cameras, near a busy intersection and stuff like that. I'd call the folks at Money Market and find out how they handle a delay or denial.

Look at the bright side, most people aren't allergic to latex gimp suits. Good luck!

$25 total and they still $2 for the color copy of seller's DL if you don't bring one.

Someone must be a real rocket surgeon to do an "ambush" after a BGC.

BTW, paying or attempting to make a firearm purchase with a rubber check or counterfeit cash is a federal offense.

True on both accounts. Doesn't mean some unscrupulous person won't follow you out of a gun store and try......

Have had that happen to me and done that to others. As long as the sale follows the law of your state, you are golden.

Gun shops shouldn't even mind. They get their transfer fee and don't have to do much record keeping and handling till they sell them who knows when later.

I remember the days when you could trade your own private property for money with nothing more than a handshake and maybe a BOS if you felt like it:(.

I read the OP twice. You're scared of tall people?

    Bwahahaha that’s horrible!
I now have to deal with visions from Pulp Fiction, Marcellus and Butch in the basement of a sketchy pawn shop with a red rubber ball in his mouth, watched by the “gimp”...
    I’m ruined.

Not afraid at all! It was more of a observation. And compounded by being two steps above me during the interaction :)

I'm just teasing, personally I'm open to talk to anyone and discuss a sale, though I personally wouldn't have taken any money from someone I didn't know without actual goods being exchanged in a finalized way. Just not my style, and all these people saying you're up some money! Is all bullbubblegum, you're holding another man's money, a very large man's money with the expectation of something owed, a bad place to put yourself to a stranger.

For an outright sale, I would probably expect a dealer (business owner with overhead) to offer around 50-60%. Probably more for a same-store trade-up, especially for a repeat customer who originally bought both pieces there. Either scenario gives the dealer some wiggle room to come up a little as the seller inches down.

I'm not 7 feet tall like the giant private party buyer, but if I overheard the exchange OP describes above, AND I wanted those guns, I would've done the same thing he did, quickly offering some reassurance that:

    - This is not ATF entrapment.

    - Those guys are tools for trying to lowball.

    - I'm willing to pay a fair cash price today, but through a different FFL who only charges $25 for the BGI. They're out there.

...and not in just thread alone, but then again, one man's paranoia is another man's preparedness and another's cluelessness, to each their to own where they draw that line.
