Economic: what @arakboss said in the opener with fines/fees etc.
Social: ostracized/criticized/scorned/demonized for owning/operating.
Legal: state/federal overbearing rules/regulations that punish too many law abiding and very little more than a slap for repeat felons

Basically war of attrition and planting doubt in taking responsibility in your own hands by owning a gun. Restricting 2A behind pay barriers. Racking up court fines/fees through legal skirting off prior rulings. Punishing severely and making happy examples of those who violate all these funny laws that keep getting added to year round between state/fed.

All the burden when fully realized almost makes you question if its worth it but then you remember its in the Constitution as a god given right that some how is treated more strict than any other privilege (not saying 2A is a privilege - thinking driving etc) out there given at much more leniency.
