Thanks rufus. A good article. Sad story, but definitely one that needed to be told.
In the last hunt of his life, Don Alejo surprised the group of assassins who wanted to impose the same law on his ranch that they had on the State, the law of the jungle.
Until the rest of Mexico and the U.S gets this message, we will continue to squabble over the cause of Mexican drug woes.
The left says it's American's appetite for drugs.
The Mexican gov says it's American guns and ammo.

The reality is based in a culture that sees the "law of the jungle" as a viable alternative to civil society.
Don Alejo obviously made his way in a civil society, and fought to preserve it.
Now if only his values will find their way into the minds of those that promote multiculturalism, we, and the Mexicans that live with these horrors, may find a solution.

Wow, what a story. I got shivers down my back. Mexico has strong gun control laws that have effectively disarmed the honest part of the population, as an older large ranch owner, he must have found a way to have kept his.

Wow!

Never see this stuff on the news, wonder why??
No 'wonder' about it - Did anyone happen to catch the latest episode of 'Border Wars' ? Part of it was about the recent Jetski shooting incident. Heck you get better news coverage on the educational channels than conventional news. The cartels have already won and they know it. The Mexican government is losing their country and they know it. (officials being targeted and killed, cops not showing up or quitting out of fear) This is NOT going to get any better without massive, committed and decisive involvement by the United States.

Exactly...and until more Mexicans stand up for this tyrannical use of control, they will never be free.

This is exactly why we will never win the war in Iraq or Afghanistan. Too many cowards that won't stand up and fight for themselves or their country...their so used to being controlled and so numb to violence that they've become accustomed to it. People get executed in the streets in broad daylight- nobody says a word or lifts a finger. Mexico is the new Middle East...blame it on anything you want, but they need more people like Don Alejo to fight for what is right.

You have to EARN freedom.

This is not the same day and age where people can gather together and overthrow a system with just pitchforks and torches. These people are well armed, very wealthy, and have a very good understanding how to make sure they stay on top.

The citizens would be slaughtered if they tried to stand up and fight.

Same could be said for us...if they cannot stand up against an obvious tyrant in unison, what makes everyone think that we can against one that does the tyranny behind closed doors?

If Alejo would have stopped a bunch of armed, corrupt, Mexican Marines- this story would have been different. The press release would have been one with a criminal spin, not a heroic one.

I can't seem to find any other reports on this. Just repeats of the exact article or references to it. I can't find any pics or other accounts. Anyone else have better luck? How was it the author of this story came to report it?
