From Sportsman's Warehouse:

On and after December 08, 2022 (Thursday) all firearm buyers must have an Oregon Firearm Purchase Permit to purchase ANY firearm.
At this time there are no known OR law enforcement agencies issuing the Oregon Firearm Purchase Permit.

I honestly didn't know it would be this bad. At least it will be totally safe to walk around Portland at any time of day now.

As covered in another thread, FFL holders are required to follow state laws and as of right now that will be a state law on Dec 8th, so yeah, that is a thing and SW is just doing what they are required to do, but at least they are being proactive and letting everyone know in advance

So now that Congress has passed the Safer Communities Act and the people of Oregon have passed the Gun Violence Reduction Act, our communities are safer and gun violence will be reduced, so there is no further need for any more gun laws, right?

/sarc off

Was there a sign at Sportsman's saying this? Where did you see it? If that's the truth then I will only stop in there to stink up their bathroom before I shop next door and not spend any money in there.

I also received an email this afternoon from Sportsmans Warehouse. No sales without a permit as of 12/8/22. Also received an email from Tri-County Gun Club that no transfers processed after today.

The text from Sportsman's Website:

  • Based on the passage of Oregon Ballot Initiative 114 and its expectation to take effect on December 08, 2022, Sportsman's Warehouse currently understands the following impacts to Oregon residents;
    • December 07, 2022 (Wednesday) will be the last day to purchase a full capacity firearm magazine (magazine with a capacity greater than 10 rounds).
    • December 07, 2022 (Wednesday) will be the last day to purchase a firearm equipped with a full capacity magazine (firearms equipped and sold with magazines holding more than 10 rounds).
    • December 07, 2022 (Wednesday) will be the last day to purchase ANY firearm without a valid Oregon Firearm Purchase Permit.
    • If a firearm customer's background check is delayed (goes into the "OSP que") and the approval comes on or after December 08, 2022 (Thursday) – the customer will need a valid Oregon Firearm Purchase Permit to take possession of the firearm.
    • On and after December 08, 2022 (Thursday) all firearm buyers must have an Oregon Firearm Purchase Permit to purchase ANY firearm.
      • At this time there are no known OR law enforcement agencies issuing the Oregon Firearm Purchase Permit.
      • The new Oregon Firearm Purchase Permit may require live fire training.
  • Sportsman's Warehouse is dedicated to serving our Oregon customers and is doing everything possible to satisfy their needs.
    • This includes extending store hours and resupplying stores on a rapid schedule.
  • We encourage you to reach out to your local representatives on this egregious initiative and its potential long-term detrimental impacts to the outdoor sporting goods industry, hunting, shooting sports and Oregonians Second Amendment rights.

If this is true then it's not a good time to buy a gun because if you get delayed you won't get that gun until a training system is set up or they throw 114 out. Prepare for a long wait.

No it is not a joke.
Makes one wonder if those that are gun owners and who voted for Measure 114 ....
Actually took the time to read all of it...and understood just what it intends to do.

Rhetorical question...so no need to answer.

Sounds like a perfect opportunity for legal action against the state.

The state said they would give me 30 days notice as to when it would take affect. Watch for a note on the background check login page. ( where the state posts important information for us FFL holders.
I think sportsman's is just being careful. And not wanting to get to bogged down in paperwork.

TCGC sent out an email stating that they are stopping all new 4473s as the queue is so long it might be longer to get approved than the grace period between now and 12/8.

I haven't heard anything about if you are in queue before Dec 8th your good?
