I also carry a 1911 & G19 IWB at 4pm and unless you're very adept at spotting such things you wouldn't even see it. Then again nobody pays close enough attention so carry what you desire.

Fake news! Nobody can carry a 1911 and not print badly remember? That's the wrong tool for the job. Keep up here man!

I hear you on the care with drawing the weapon. My question is without a hard trigger guard, carrying a Glock or similar without a manual safety, is there a risk of accidental discharge when going about a normal, active day? Should I carry without a round chambered? I don't really like the idea of that either.
Personally I don't consider it a danger as my finger never comes near the trigger until my arm is forward cleared, on target. A round is always chambered unless it's at home cleared, with mag removed. Kind of depends on circumstances. after I get home. Firearms are always loaded. Locked open however you never have to worry on need to hear that dreaded click instead of a bang. Guarantee the old 27 foot man with a knife losing a battle gets even worse should you have to draw and chamber. RIP. Glocks have a hard trigger guard, the safety is your finger, keep it off until ready to destroy your target. If in doubt, they have this cute little guard that all it does is cover the guard and trigger. When you draw it forward it is anchored, and pops off as you get as certain distance on your draw. Many use it that will inside frontal carry, just to protect certain vitals if they beat themselves to the draw!

Depends on what you wear the type of holster. A shoulder holster properly adjusted under a loose jacket real hard to spot. The angle tilt on the 1911 it can be pretty well disguised. Tight fit and light weight clothing again some builds is difficult. Just a regular holster would pretty much be a no, but there are some nice higher end ones that do a great job. One down side is you may not always have a location that is completely convenient. Some know this and will go to a Commander size or even smaller as a trade off. Glock isn't an unkind word either.

Okay, my friend. I'll try and make this as simple as possible. Your 1911 is not built to be concealed. Period. I'm 6 foot, 200 pounds, and if I'm carrying my .45 everyone knows it. And I'm okay with it. If you want to carry a weapon and conceal it so that nobody can detect that you're carrying, you need a smaller frame weapon. Period. Glad I could help.

Actually, you're wrong. Turns out the holster that I chose simply wasn't the one for me. It was a very well built item from a great company, but I won't name them because they don't deserve any negativity. But, I will name the holster I found that worked for me: Alien Gear. The belt clips are super thin and the holster keeps the butt of the gun tucked into the small of my back so that it doesn't catch my shirt. All but the tightest of my shirts conceal it well. Perhaps you missed the part of my thread where I gave the exact weapon and size specs which show it as NOT a full size 1911.

Also, I'm not your friend.

Lots of folks think they're concealing a 1911, and some folks can actually pull it off. If you're 5 foot 8, 170, and not wearing enough clothing to keep you warm in 20 degree weather, it's visible. Period the end. The only times I carry a large frame .45 is in public and I don't care if the observer knows I'm armed, or when I'm out in the woods and I just carry open. I'm not particularly concerned whether or not you think I "helped". You wanna conceal? Leave the 1911 at home. What's the first rule in a gun fight?

What in your life has given you this level of cockiness? You come across with the bravado of a virgin trying to play up his prowess in the sack.

There are no rules and the only thing that matters is protecting me and mine. For me, that means keeping a weapon that I know like the back of my hand, that I have trained countless hours and rounds with, and that I can shoot very, very well. I would sacrifice a modicum of conceal-ability in order to have such a weapon with me.

I've been doing this for a week or two.......

Bwuahahahahahahahaha. Slow your role, sport. When you've been doing it for a decade or two, I'll look to your advice kindly.

Sh!t just got real. :D

I love the Alien Gear holster also! Glad you found what works.:s0155:
Yep - what I was using was a more traditional single clip holster and the butt just wouldn't stay in. The wider footprint and dual clips on the Alien seems to be just what I needed.

Still...goin' to miss that leather lined kydex from the one I was using...felt very soft on the gun. Oh well though - I hear that holster wear adds character.

My Glocks all have holster wear. They still shoot just fine. :)

Lol...you guys are killing me. Look...I don't mean to be disrespectful to anyone. I may have come off that way, so if I have I apologize. Here's the thing. This stuff is important. We all carry for basically the same reasons....at least I hope we do. I'm not Dirty Harry. Bottom line, concealed handguns are for self defense. I carry a .45 in the woods because I may encounter a bear, or worse, a tweaker with a gun. I've encountered both. And I don't care if the bear or the tweaker sees my weapon. Nobody who is trying to conceal carries a Desert Eagle. And if you do, and you run across a guy with hostile intent and a little know-how, you'll have two in your chest before your big pretty Desert Eagle even clears your leather Harley jacket. Let's try and be serious here, folks. This is serious stuff. An individual either wants to have the biggest bang for the buck on his hip, or he wants to be truly, absolutely concealed. You can't effectively conceal a large frame weapon, let alone a friggin' Desert Eagle, when it's really important that you're well concealed. If I'm awake and dressed, I'm armed. Everywhere. I can, and do, go everywhere that one is not supposed to go with a weapon. I also find a secondary and tertiary means of exiting a space before I even look at the menu. You think I'm blowing smoke? Fine. The first rule of a gun fight is don't get shot. The second rule of a gunfight is this....If there's a way to get out of it without drawing your weapon, do it. Peace.
