I've been looking at the 5.56x39 as a possible choice as a SHTF caliber. You can get this in an AR platform and ammo is very cheap. I know its corrosive but 7.5 cents a round I can afford to buy a lot of cleaning supply's.
 
Saying something about the 5.45 having an internal cavity causing it to spin on impact. eeks.

(just a snippit that I thought was interesting)

A buddy and I bought a couple S&W 5.45X39 uppers last summer. Haven't put a lower under mine yet, but we have shot the h... out of his at least 3 cases with out a problem. They seem to like the russian 7n6, and clean up well with a few shots of windex. Happy shooting'
