Anyone else find it ironic to base someone's perceived lack of class based solely on how they look? I get it, You miss the good ole days of your childhood. Class is an attitude, disposition- especially under fire not a dress code, Behavior and aesthetics aren't always mutually exclusive but it's insular to think one begets the other. Easily 80-90% of the worse attitudes I've ever encountered have been in a suit or pencil skirt, not saying I've never encountered a patchouli flavored douche. Like my old man said, shiite comes in all shapes and colors.
I deal with people like the ones in this thread at work every day. They look at me and can't imagine how someone with a mullet and Inch and a half holes in his ears could possibly operate a machine that ionizes radiation; let alone get through the program! How could he possibly run a fluoroscopic C arm and guide my surgeon or x-ray my child? Just...just LOOK at him! he's one of THEM!

BOOMERS:rolleyes:

Sometimes it makes if difficult to keep an open mind when you meet someone who carries themselves in a style that you are unfamiliar with. As a hair stylist, I wish I could take my number 1 clipper guard to all the mullets in the world, only reason - I never met anyone that looked better in a mullet than they do in a high and tight or even bald in some situations. I'll be honest and say that I can't concentrate talking to anyone that has huge guages in their ear. Now there is nothing wrong with people that choose this style, but they set themselves up for being mis-understood unless they knock it out of the park in personality 24/7.

I will stand to the side and try to throw spit wads through them.

You never get a second chance to make a first impression.

People have every right to dress in any way they want to project their "self" to strangers...
....I have every right to respond to the "self" that's projected.

Times change. 10 years ago an applicant with an uncoverable tattoo could not get a job at the company my wife worked at; today you almost can't land a job there without one. My dear mom always told me not to judge a book by it's cover, it stuck.

I'll tell you one thing, it makes my job harder. It used to be I could tell the dirtbags from the regular folks. Now, they all look the same around here. Everyone wants to look like a homeless drug addict who hasn't bathed, shaved, or washed their clothes in a year. All the kids look like punks. Can't tell the boys from the girls.

We have Goodwill OUTLET stores now.

Besides the older dude on the left, not ONE person in this picture of the fine residents of Olympia looks employable for anything besides weird retail or tattoo parlors.

We all judge people everyday based on looks. If you say you dont, you probably aren't being honest. We do this because it works pretty well. If you mix 10 tweakers and 10 soccer moms, you can pick who's who with pretty good accuracy.

And yeah, tattoos have become so common and cliche, they arent a good indicator of anything anymore if they ever were.

Yeah, you get 10 tweakers and at least 5 pill poppers and 2 alcoholics.

I try to dress appropriately, but if I need to go to town for something I'm working on, I don't much care what I look like. I believe this to be a benefit of old age. I took a lot of returnable cans and bottles to Walmart a year or so ago and the checker thought I was homeless.

Lucky for me I'm close enough to retirement I don't care much how people want to present themselves.

I do keep an eye out for dangerous people, and yes, I'm making an internal judgement call. Just this week my wife and I were enjoying breakfast at a local establishment where this guy who's old enough to know better was hitting on every woman in the place, making obscene comments, showing other customers pornographic pictures on his phone, etc. I told my wife the guy is trouble. Sure enough we learned today he mouthed off to the wrong guy, told him his wife was a fat something or the other, the guy drug him out back and took care of business. He's banned for life from the establishment.

The guy presented nice though, well enough dressed. You never know these days.

If your going to make an initial bad impression with your appearance, don't make it permanent with your mouth. Everyone makes snap judgments based on appearance. Humans are wired that way as part of a survival mechanism. Don't matter how "woke" one is. There is a difference between class and class-holes though, both with the perceiver and the perceived. FYI- this isn't directed at any threads here, just my own opinion.
