here's a question, John Q Public, has a CHL and a DL with no Sr. On it. He gets the missus preggers. She dominos giving them a John Q. Jr. So the father starts getting called Sr. Does he need to get his licenses corrected to Sr.? Or does all the rest of his personal info like address birthdate and SSN trump the use of Jr. Sr.?

Brutus out

Sr. was not born a Sr. A Jr. was born a Jr. So Jr. is a real name. Sr. has to have a name change to have a legal name of Sr. But you can just add the Sr. if you want but you are still a John A Doe.

If it is on your birth cert., then generally that is officially your name.

If not, then not.

Part of it may also depend on when you apply for an SSI ID - which they now do when you are born.

The accumulation of official documentation with your name on it may determine what counts too.

When I was in college at LCC, there was a group from Mexico going through an accelerated cert. program. They had learned, before the final exam, that their certificates were already printed, so many of them refused to take the test, saying they already had their certs.

Turned out the certs. had their names on them, but the full name was in the wrong order, and most of them being hispanic names with more parts to them than just the two or three we have, in Mexico, this made them invalid. So those that took the test had their certs reprinted, those that didn't lost out.

It matters.
