If I have a smart phone with a data package do I have to purchase another data package for an iPad so I can have wireless service for it as well?

Depends on the carrier, but most allow you to tether for a fee (maybe $10 per month).
Also your phone might have hotspot capabilities.

If they can get away with it, yes, they will extract every cent possible. I know because I am posting this from my iPad which costs an additional $25 a month for data.

    There, fixed that for you.
If you have an Android phone, and if you root it, then you can usually use the wifi hotspot function of the phone for free. I have an android phone, but it isn't rooted, so I can't answer any questions about that, but google can.

I use the bluetooth function of my phone and ipad or if I'm using the wifes phone then I use the Fox Fi app to cloud the phones wifi internet connection, works fine.

Verizon just changed packages to share data. I believe it is a $10/device charge/month.

You could also download an "hotspot" app to your phone and use it for free.....

Maybe you should dump Verizon instead of changing my post.

Then just down load a free app like FoxFi......... No rooting required.

I'd never have verizon. I have sprint. Maybe you should have said that Verizon charges $10 instead of "most carriers".
