Now a days......
A more useful question to ask yourself before employing self defense, would be.....

What racial extraction are you and what is the racial extraction of the suspect?

LOL.

Aloha, Mark

PS....Now a days...it's not like the police will be chasing a stolen car anymore.

New attitude : Just let them have anything they want. It's only property. Cough, cough....

My take? Is it really worth staring a shoot out over the vehicle? Notice scum had no problems touching off rounds at rock thrower. Where are those rounds going? If scum hits some kid, would the owner think it was worth getting the scum to fire? If owner had gun, and pulled it, would he be able to drop the scum before the scum could also fire? Doubt it. So again if you have two people touching off rounds and either of them hits someone else was it worth it? I know it burns the butt to see scum run off with property but, when someone chooses to start a gun fight they have to be willing to accept if things go bad. After its over with if some innocent is hit, will it be worth it?
The obvious choice then is to just give scum whatever they want, your car, your wife, your life. Anyone pulls a gun on you is willing to kill you....I'll take all your chances to save my life if they draw on me....not for my car but for a lawful society.

I missed the part where I said Wife or life. So by all means pretend that life is like those video games. First chance start a gun fight. If it happens and you get some kid walking by shot you will be held accountable but, you were right, so there is that going for you. :s0092:

Life isn't like a video game.....and I never implied that. But life and our society has become lawless because of attitudes like yours. I'll take responsibility fro my actions....you just watch your world taken away without recourse.

Needs to start happening to the "elite" rule makers. Then you will see some actually try to do something if they get a call from their spouse saying some armed scum just took off with their vehicle at gun point.
You mean before their police escort entourage stops when they even get close. Yeah that will happen. "I dont beleive in walls" but i beleive in walls of police to escort all us politish¡ts to and froe.
Really starting to frown upon some of these police. Really they are the ones propping them up. Same exact thing that happens in crooked countries all over the world. Time for the police unions to say no more. Your on your own. We arent your lap dogs. You defund us, we stop defending you.

Well it would be nice but, the street Cops pretty much have to follow what they are told. If they say "you 4, today your detail is protect Mr Smith all day", who hates Cops what are they to do? Sadly often the top people in any larger department become VERY political. They are looking at the big money after they retire so they toe the line. Its going to come down to what it always does. If we are going to see real change it has to be voters who say they have had enough. I work with several LEO's who when they are candid, are sick to death about what is happening. One of them was telling me he is sooooo glad he only has 1 year left and he can put in his papers and walk. Guy is still young, at least compared to me. He is just holding his job till that magic number is in and he can take the promised pension and move on to some other way to live.

Yeah i know.. Just sour about it all. Its stupid some of these ranking chiefs and such are making like $400k too! Open the books just did a expose on it.
Still we need as many as possible to walk, or never start hooefully the rest get so burnt out it causes a rift in the union and becomes a flare up and gets traction.
Ill be 100% down to see them come back in force with a vengeance WITHOUT the politics.
Would really suck to be in that pisition!

While it's not worth starting a gun fight over that, I can tell you that I was once almost robbed at a gas station in Tampa just a year ago almost the guy tried to rob me with a Glock 19 in my ribs basically and I did not give him my money. Because I was traveling I did not have a weapon on me but even if I did, I would have been shot before I could even draw it. Sometimes just balls is the solution.

You never know how you will react until you're actually in the situations, in my case I was able to distract him with the camera I parked by and ask him if he was going to shoot me on camera and go to prison for life over my money which caused him to hesitate then the gas station attendant walking by suddenly who's attention I caught by yelling at him this guy was trying to rob me and the robber took off.

If someone has you at gunpoint all you can do is hand it over even if you are carrying. Now many from the cover of keyboard of course say they would then go after the scum after. Risky at best. Start sending rounds out and you're responsible for everyone of them. As many find out the hard way bullets do not go where you wish them to go.

Having a backup gun that is not visible is a good thing.

As for complying with the attacker's demands, that is up to you, but bear in mind, if this person has already pulled a gun on you, they may use it whether you comply or not, your life is already at peril, so I personally would not feel bad about using a gun I had, if I could.

Yeah the gas station attendant said go after him he ran that way. Robber is maybe 10 to 15 yards away now jogging away to the apartments he probably lives at. I was like nah I'm good, one he has a gun and I didn't. Two the threat has passed. Cops never did get him but he'll get caught or killed eventually...

So pump jockey wanted you to run after him? :s0140:
If it was me I think I would have said I have a better idea. I will watch your store, you run after him and let me know how that goes.

He was one of three attendants, it was a big gas station 7/11. But he was a nice guy. I wouldn't expect a guy making minimum wage to have the best decision making skills.

Ultimately him randomly walking by sweeping 🧹 the area is what drive the robber away. Me pointing to the camera I purposely parked in front of and Pointing to it and asking him if he was willing to go to prison for life over my money given that he was on camera showed me he was no killer...he couldn't pull the trigger. Many who carry can't....

Carrying a gun doesn't make one dangerous. What you're willing to do does...

Words to live by.

I saw a story where a grocery store was being robbed by a masked assailant with an AK. Good Samaritan with a CCW walks into the store and sees what's going on, standing 20-30 feet away he pulls his pistol and yells "put the gun down". Bad guy immediately turns and shoots him in the torso and legs. Luckily the Good Samaritan lived but I think he is too good of a person to kill, even if it's a BG.

Now, it's easy to say he should have done this or he should have done that, but, the moral of the story is: this thread is all speculation. Opinion are useless in a robbery. Every situation is different.

Well, it doesn't hurt to have a gun, if you know what to do with it and when to use it.

The OP was whether it was good to have a pocket pistol. IMO, a gun that is hidden, even if lifting your jacket/shirt/etc., is generally a good thing too, especially in those locales where people may be expected to go armed, but carry concealed.
