ok; someone who knows doublespeak/newspeak tell me exactly what's "a break from the past" that the Oregon Sheriffs have done?

So much of the article is fluff about militias, about politics, and about demographics..it doesn't really say much about just exactly what the Oregon Sheriffs are doing that's "different from the past"; other than maybe getting on the good side of the Legislature...

and they of course used a Pol-Science professor from Portland to "rebuke the idea of sheriff sovereignty"

The guy is right on one point; where State law contradict Fed law, Fed law supersedes it.

BUT.... here's the twist; there are no Fed laws that restrict the types of guns and equipment related to them, that the State of Oregon desires to restrict.... Outside those specified by GCA1934, GCA1968, and FOPA1986.

Also notable, is the affirmation in the Oregon Constitution that County Sheriffs have the full jurisdiction of everything not on State Property; The OSP jurisdiction is limited to State Property, and State Highways/Interstates. OSP requires having the cooperation of the County Sheriff departments to exercise their enforcement on property not held by the State  Of course, the Governor's Office can in theory order the OSP to unilaterally enforce laws on non-State property, but that probably will open up the likelihood of lawsuits from the Sheriff Departments and the People  (actually, that ought to be a tactic we can use against the OSP)

Actually, from what I understand allot of what is said( article) is over the top propaganda.
In reality from a lawyer I spoke with ( no not giving legal advice it was a casual conversation we had).
That your ability to be a Sovereign Citizen evaporated the day you either registered for the draft or got a Social Security Number.
The legality goes deep in to what must be millions of documents, laws and bills that have placed adhesion to being held to federal laws.
Not you can call yourself anything you want. And some people may not have a SS# or registered. But most people have to work, and file taxes and what most do not understand is by doing these acts (registered for the draft or got a Social Security Number) you sealed your fate. Under the 14th Amendment if you have indeed ever benefited from these defined rights then you are out of luck claiming sovereignty.
Not convinced? Native Americans, enjoy Sovereignty only on their land and not on their travels.
If you have no land that is yours then you are federally guided, if you had met the criteria above.
But the whole convoluted legal system no doubt has near everyone handcuffed and they do not even know it.
You can say you are sovereign all you like. But unless you fit the legally definition or have been assimilated into it, you are not legally. And no Government, local or other wise can change it, just because they like the idea.
Whole freakin can of worms if people start going after these rights, you will have to reject what you eve have possibly, and then it may not be possible.

...unfortunately,

We've seen how many judges and elected officials get the Second Amendment wrong. How many have a Constitutionaly valid understanding of Ashwander vs TVA?
