I called it Gunfixx. A standard answering machine saying "The party you are trying to reach".....Guys voice "JOHNSON CREEK"..."is not available" ETC.

Just give the word Jill! I've got plenty of time this month and next to do nothing but try to reach "JOHNSON CREEK".......There are ways if your with comcast to block you number too.

It's almost certainly a voicemail with a 541 area code - you can get them for free and they are widely used by scammers (e.g. k7.net). Nobody is stupid enough to try this scam living in Oregon. They are almost certainly outside the US.

A DMCA takedown to the ISP for copying your content is faster than a cease and desist letter, but both wouldn't hurt. Domain registrars will usually ignore a cease and desist - that's why the UDRP exists. And you need to nuke the domains because they can shift ISP's in a few minutes if they are determined.

This thread shows why you should have a google alert (http://www.google.com/alerts) set up for your company name and variations. You'll find out immediately if someone sets up a fake site or puts up an auction in your name.

I have two answers for that....

#1: Yeah, OK, I see what you mean. I don't want to make it harder for the club to nail these bastages!

#2: Yeah, RIGHT! Nobody really cares about the people that call me for sales even though I'm on the "do not call list". They change their number just enough that I can't even block their calls.
The drug dealer, that lives across the street from me, with a long prison record that continues to do his dirty crap day in and day out?

And I'm supposed to believe that the authorities are going to come after me if I(We) call a set up scam phone number hundreds of times, REALLY? I tend to go with the safe side, but unless someone that really knows, for sure, I'd vote to spam the hell out of 'em....With tact, of course, and keeping the letter of the law in mind.

So, HAS anybody registered on Utah guns to have their mods look into this guy?

Our lawyer says it is called "internet squatting" and is getting more and more popular. He also said they probably picked us because we look like a small reputable range and by us only selling memberships and not guns and ammo, we must not make a lot of money so we won't have the funds to fight them and they will just ruin us and take over as the Johnson Creek Gun Club. They picked the wrong club!

I'm really sorry to hear this. I wish there were more options for you to save your business. I will do all that I can to fix this, but I don't even know if that will get these people to leave the gun club alone. Luckily, I have a lot of support from here and some other places. Everyone seems to want to help and that is one of the biggest reasons to have the lawyer help us make this right. It's not just a shooting range that's worth fighting for, it's the community it creates.

You will get some guy email you from another country (or not) via multiple untraceable proxies, asking for a credit card, checking account #, etc.

I would be very surprised if this was someone actually in this country much less someone in Oregon. Calling, emailing, etc., with threats does no good for these people - they are used to it, they are already setup to handle it because they have done this many times before.

I would guess they probably have dozens if not hundreds of websites like this. They probably have a bot they apply to a likely website, or maybe someone they pay a couple of dollars to for each website they tell them to ripoff.

Then they just sit back and wait for the CC #s to roll in. If they get one out of a thousand visitors, it is worth it to them. Take the site down, they have hundreds more.

GREAT NEWS!!! The website with johnsoncreekgunclubinc dot com is down, for now anyway. Our lawyer sent them a letter and I guess they realized we weren't playing games. We still have one to go and I don't know if they will just put the site back up somewhere else, but this is great work. I appreciate everyone and their opinions, suggestions and all around support during this time. There is a armory in Texas that has been going through this for over a year. I contacted them last week when their information was on an add for guns with our information. They said they didn't have the time, man power or resources to fight them, so they just had to deal with it. I'm so glad we were able to do something about it. They really sound defeated. I will keep you informed...

One would think that the government would have a more intense interest in shutting these guys down, since it is fraud involving selling (or lack of selling) firearms.

Glad to hear the good news. Did you contact the Utah gun site to get them booted off the sellers' forum? I figured that someone not involved (like me) wouldn't mean as much to the forum owner.
