You should have to own property to get a vote. Have some skin in the game.
THat would eliminate the majority of renters out there....

One better idea.... voters are restricted to those who actually pay the taxes from income and property. That would change the way the bills and such go...of course, the politicians are going to be against that because it means losing a huge chunk of their voting bloc
BUT BUT BUT.....if everyone is paying a consumption tax as opposed to being taxed on income...then everyone is paying taxes...so that would mean the voting bloc would be about the same.....

...and Illinois isn't the only State with looming Pension and budget problems. Watch, learn, plan your finances accordingly.

Some say to watch what happens with Illinois. I think we need to see what the fed does with Puerto Rico. They want to declare bankruptcy but by law its illegal. Will our elected change the law, or will they vote to pay off some of their debt, or just erase it off the debt owed to the federal government? If they do any of those things states will be lining up at the trough to do the same. Once again, who are the losers here? Yeah

We own property in 3 different counties in Oregon. We live in one of those counties and get to vote in that county only. The other two counties that we pay taxes in, we do not get to vote on anything and are still subject to any rulings therein.

How should that work ?? Renters pay those taxes via property rents built into the cost structure on both residential and commercial properties. At least that is how we figured it on the rentals we used to own.

A very good question. I wouldn't propose that you get to vote in every county/state you own property in because that would only benefit the elite class as they would be able to buy property where they need a vote.

Yes, if the process worked that way then the fraud and corruption would be worse than it currently is. I accept the fact that I will not get to vote in those counties I do not have residence in even though I pay taxes in those counties. I still have access to give input to county officials and to have dialog with other people who do vote, so there is some level of representation present.

Politicians and government workers are a gang that makes the MS 13's gangs dealings look like a Boy Scout troop.

Let's add " and their unions" to that observation. Those are some of the most powerful labor unions in the US anymore. They make Hoffa and the Teamsters look like a bunch of puss*es. They can strong arm the government and the voters with out breaking anybodies leg.

The unions tell them how to vote and they bob their heads like the good bobblehead government employees they are and pull the lever they are told to. Pretty hard to overcome a 30% plus population voting block in most elections.

Considering the fact that unions only represent about 15% of the workforce what the do bring to the table is money, not votes. That money is used to twist the arms of our elected piglets. So the spineless legislators are afraid to turn down the money because some other spineless guy will take it instead.
Let's call for 12 year term limits on both reps and sens (6 & 2 terms respectively). Post service, 5 years of health care and a pension for the same number of years in service. Nothing after that.

Unions may represent 15% of the workforce, but you have sympathetic votes that go with that 15% active workforce. The way these numbers stack up it can easily double that number. You can take all public employees in the state, state, federal, county and other agencies, add their spouses, add their children, add the retired employees that are sucking off the PERS system, add their spouses and kids and you have a pretty significant block of voters. You also have unrepresented workers as well in administrative roles that can add to that. I know a lot of public employees who have that kind of influence and their families usually follow that same pattern. ( Daddy was a veteran, a southern democrat, never get a rich man to vote like that.) Alabama - Song of the South.

This block when turned out to protect the benefits that the golden pubic goose sh*ts out for them is easily enough to give that demographic a huge portion of the 35% voter turnouts in non general election years and the 45% turn out in general elections. When you add in the liberal bent of Oregon as well, those who feel these poor public workers who gave up so much for so many years, and whom are still woefully underpaid, and that they should be compensated in retirement at 100% or more of their working wages for the huge sacrifices they made to serve the public. [insert puking emoji here]

You are being pretty generous giving those politicians 12 years to do damage to the government. Two 4 years terms and go back to a real job. 8 years is more than enough time to receive graft and job offers after they leave office.

Lol, as if voting in this corrupt system makes any difference....You're already behind the curve because you are outnumbered by morons, 99:1

Actually I think it's kinda ironic that Illinois would lose out
on the lottery money cause that must generate a bunch of money for them
Looks like only the immediate legality of recreational drugs of all types is the
only way to save Illinois (could mebbe save Oregon too if all the dopers went to IL)

Government employee unions are a crime. Private sector unions are good to go.
