HB 4145 is scheduled to be voted on tomorrow in the Oregon House.

If passed, this bill would allow anyone you have ever had an "intimate relationship" with to demand that your firearms be confiscated.

As you know from a previous alert, people who make false allegations of abuse face very little chance of being prosecuted for their crimes. That's what makes this bill so dangerous. If you are accused, you are guilty.

Republicans Richard Vial and Andy Olson joined the gun grabbers and voted for this bill in committee assuring it would go to the floor for a vote.

You may want to take a moment to express your outrage that they would vote to attack the rights of the people who elected them to appease the anti-rights left that controls the Oregon Legislature.

You may also want to urge Republican Leader Mike McLane to do all he can to assure that no more Republicans abandon their constituents and vote for this nonsense.

But please take just one moment to send a message to the whole House that you oppose this senseless and dangerous assault on your rights, your freedom, and common sense.

Take action here.

To make sure people are appropriately worried (or less worried), this new law would extend existing restrictions to former girlfriends / boyfriends who otherwise have a legitimate basis for a restraining order or a stalking protection order. You don't get those years later, you have to apply for a restraining order within 180 days of an act of abuse or a threat that results in fear of imminent physical harm and a credible threat.

Respectfully, it takes a little more than an "accusation." And you still have the right, as always, to defend yourself rather than accept a restriction on your constitutional rights without a fight. In my experience, many contested restraining orders end up with a dismissal or a voluntary dismissal because the allegations truly are weak. It just takes the courage (and the acceptance of risk) to stand up and challenge things if there is really no basis.

Not trying to minimize the concern for folks who challenge any government creep or overreach, but this really is a natural extension of the law that recognizes more people are having kids out of wedlock, entering into long-term romantic relationships without getting married, etc. There is no increase in the penalty if this law was enacted, just a wider net.

As I mentioned in another post on this topic, advocates for lawful gun ownership need to look at changing or clarifying the federal statutes and regulations that have existed for more than 20 years just as much as they worry about these little adjustments on a state level.

Cut, cut...chip, chip...the death of our 2nd A by a thousand cuts. But it's not only gun laws. Democrats have never seen a new law, or tax, they didn't like. Wait till they get done with the new carbon and gas tax...and for what? Things won't get better till we run the commie-liberal D's out of Salem. Maybe Trump will put a bounty on them, or start building space ships to send back to planet Bizzaro, where they came from. Any gun owner who votes D's into office should be considered a traitor.

Wow...what have you done to effect change lately? Or are you just giving up? That's why we are here today, you didn't do enough to keep to keep the Dems out of Salem. Glad I'm old. You young guys ever think about golf? A sport with a future. You know what they say about advice " wise men don't need it and fools don't head it". Pick a side, and Clint Eastwood is the wrong picture.
You OK, what does Clint Eastwood have to do with this topic? Oh just too much Herb ?? lol
