...it would be now in Portland.

We are pretty much in the middle of a gang war these days. It seems a gang decided to kill a prominent member of another gang at a funeral about a month ago and all **** has broken loose since then. Gang violence/shootings has increased dramatically in the past month.

Going to the Lloyd Center was always a dubious task but lately the gang presence there has exploded. Shootings have also skyrocketed there as well. There has been two shooting this month in the parking garage already.

I will not even go to some parts of town anymore. It will be awhile before I feel the need to go to Gresham. I do not even go to the big gunshop (Keith's) out there anymore.

Driving down MLK in N. Portland really is getting scary too. It is like the east side is lined with groups from one gang and the west side by groups from another. When driving down the middle you can really feel the stare down going on and it makes you wonder when the stares and shouts of insults will turn into something worse and you will be caught in the middle.

I have also noticed a lot more suspicious activities downtown at night. We used to go out and see almost no one on the street after 11pm but now the corners are filled with groups of young people standing around for hours.

A good friend of ours lives in N. Portland in some new luxury condos. When she bought them the area was undergoing a revival, but now the gangs have taken back over according to her. She is even afraid to walk her dog or go to the bus stop. I have had to go over twice now and escort her to work and back while her car was in the shop because she is afraid to ride the bus like she used to do.

I just cannot believe some people will live in these circumstances and still be against average citizens having a means of defense. The friend I have been escorting to work is very anti-gun, but it is funny how quickly her attitude changed when she thought she was in danger. She wanted me and my gun there all of the sudden.

I grew up in North Portland during the 80's and 90's, then moved off MLK near the Nike Factory Store for three years. I've seen both areas go from very bad (late 80's), to pretty decent (2004-2007), and like you said it seems like they're on their way down again.

These politicians and developers think that by building nice new stores and condos it'll somehow improve the neighborhood. Sure, you might get upstanding citizens leasing and purchasing those developments, but the bad element doesn't just go away.

The more restless the natives get the more receptive the moonbats will be to logic.

You guys talking about the Villa? LOL North Portland is a mix of several gangs, including Hispanic gangs. I worked there for a while, after it became "New Columbia." HUD and the City of Portland had this great idea that the demographics will change by putting new apartments and homes together with the SAME people in them. Hmmm...why is it becoming dangerous again? Why do you think? Duh! They refused to have armed security there, but wanted the unarmed security guys to deal with problems...Yeah right! Now they have three dedicated officers there. Hillsboro isn't much better either, but that can be left for another post.

I used to ride the #4 bus home through the villa every day from Roosevelt, in the late 90's.
I used to do that every now and then. I remember thinking..."Man, I would rather be back in Kuwait." :)

There are parts of Hillsboro and Aloha that I will not be in after dark. :(

I work at Baskin Robbins in one of those areas. Whenever my boss has me work alone after dark, I have Joe come and sit with me. I'm a smaller girl, no way will I sit in the middle of that gang crap alone. Especially not after being robbed once. Not happening again. :p

I do not blame you. I am a pretty big girl and I would not stay there alone. :D

Sometimes I wonder if I should just sit on the tail gate of my truck with my AR and shotgun in clear view.

Tired of all the prostitutes and gang-banging douche bags flashing gang signs into baskin robins.

wish I was 21 and not 20. I would like to have a chl. I just about brought some protection along with me the other day despite being illegal. and I am not one to break laws. that is how parts of portland make me feel.

I carried my gun to certain areas at certain times before I was 21, and while I was 21 with no permit.

The government has no right to tell you when and where you can protect yourself.

good point. I would like to get one so I can carry at work. I do alot of electrical service work and I have been in alot of peoples homes that made me very uncomfortable being alone with them.

Canby gets kind of rough around the country club... I got beat down by 3 golfers just because I hadn't become an AARP member yet.

yeah. . .you have to watch that. . .and you have a few years to go to get your card!:s0114:

By the way. . .you didn't happen to find a Titlelist ProV1 in your backyard over the weekend, did you?:D
